Hi all! Just want to say hello and share some pics of my ongoing pirate project as well as say thank you to you all for the inspiration!

My project has started with a bit of conversion work on a couple of the Blue Moon ships. I have converted their 10 Gun Brig into a Cutter and their 8 Gun Barque into a Brig.

I apologize in advance for the poor pic quality as my camera has died on me and I am stuck using my camera from my phone for the time being.

I am still needing to add the anchors and the flags and pennants on to these two, and I hope to get my hands on a better camera and get some better pics when finished.

I'll try to keep the thread updated with my progress on the whole project as well! Thanks all!

I'd say your project is coming along very nicely.

Lovely little ships

Very nice job.

Frantic07 Sep 2014 6:12 p.m. PST

Looks great! I've been thinking of picking up some of these. Could you post their dimensions?

Also, love the water! What are you using for that?

Monkeywithtacos08 Sep 2014 11:49 p.m. PST

Thanks all, for the positive reception. It is appreciated… Working on another one that I should have done by the end of the week….

Frantic, the deck* of the 10 gun brig (which I converted to the Cutter) is 7.5 inches long by 3 inches wide. The deck of the 8 Gun Barque (the one I converted to a Brig) is 8.5 inches long by 3 inches wide. I also have their Pirate Brig that I am working on currently ( it's deck is 10 inches long by 2.5 inches wide) and their "Man o War" (deck on it is 11 inches by 2.5 inches) that is next in line.

I have to say that I wish the Pirate Brig and Man o War were just a little bit bigger….perhaps 3 or 3.5 inches in width and the length up scaled appropriately, but they still are very nice kits (and practically a steal if you are a member of the "Old Glory Army"…which I became aware of thanks to several of you here on TMP) and well worth picking up.

Update: I have finished up work on my Blue Moon Pirate Brig, as well as finishing up work on my Cutter conversion and my other Brig coversion.

Blue Moon Pirate Brig

Blue Moon 8 Gun Barque converted into a Brig

Blue Moon 10 Gun Brig converted into a Cutter

I also received my order from Old Glory and apparently made a common mistake regarding scale. I had ordered a couple of their 15mm ships (the brig Badger and galley Washington) thinking they were going to be the same scale as their Blue Moon 15mm ships. Sadly the are not, but not to worry I will find something to use the kits for as they are quite nice kits.

Next up on my desk is the Blue Moon Man o War which I am converting into a galley frigate, and then one of the 25mm Old Glory French Corvettes which will be used as a frigate. Somewhere in there I have figures to paint as well. Busy busy busy…..

Thanks for the info and those look great!

Great stuff!
I really love it when the models get rigged a bit to truly show that they from the age of sail. I can't wait to see your future ships. Will you be building a convention game or just playing with a local club?

Monkeywithtacos16 Sep 2014 11:20 a.m. PST

Thank you all for the positive response!

@Wingnut:
I so wish we had a local club or convention near to where I live, but sadly I have yet to find any. Pretty much building for home games for my son, his friends, my friends and myself atm. Maybe I can generate some interest and get a club going in the future. That would be fun. You and your games have been a huge inspiration for me, and I would love to someday be a part of something like that!

Monkeywithtacos,
our stuff started on a coffee table and grew over 4 years. Build a pretty game that is fun, people will join in.

Those look really great!

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Just finished up work on a Bermuda Sloop for my son that he decided to name the Venture. It's based of of the Bermuda Sloop kit from Sea Dog Studios/Sailpower with some minor modifications and conversion work. Enjoy…

Currently working on the ratlines of a schooner I think I'm going to call the "Ban Sidhe"…. Will share pics when I finish her up….

Monkeywithtacos28 Sep 2014 11:57 a.m. PST

Took a break from running ratlines to work on some palm trees based on Dervel's tutorial here on TMP…

Very happy with the result

Man, find yourself a cake decorating shop and get your self some plastic palm trees. The ones you made look fine but for the same amount of effort you can have a full gross of trees for cheap. That is if you can actually find them – used to be super common, not so much anymore (at least in bulk quantities).

Those ships are stunning. And here is a link to my "little" venture into 15 mm pirate gaming. Just so you know, Arizona is within driving range of Sacramento! : ) carobbeansea.blogspot.com Explore at your own risk.

Monkeywithtacos10 Oct 2014 10:14 a.m. PST

Thanks for the suggestion and kind words, EMW. I have actually considered the cake decorator trees and may end up adding some as well….

In the meantime, I have pretty much completed the Sea Dog Studios/Sailpower merchant schooner I was working on,(only thing left is to add the swivel/rail guns. I had initially planned on calling her the "Ban Sidhe" but decided to christen her the "Raven" instead…

I've since begun work on one of the Blue Moon "Man of Wars" that I'm converting to be used as a galley frigate. I'll be sure to post pics when it's finished…

Monkeywithtacos16 Oct 2014 11:23 a.m. PST

Finally finished up the "Ban Sidhe". She is a Blue Moon (Old Glory)15mm Man of War that I did some minor conversion work and turned her into a galley frigate…

Next up, I think, will be a Sea Dog Studios 12 gun brig I'll share pics when it's done. Thanks for looking!

Monkeywithtacos07 Nov 2014 9:27 p.m. PST

Finished up the first of my "National" navy ships….. The "HMS Birkenhead," a British Royal Navy brig. She is from a Sailpower/Sea Dog Studios 12 gun brig kit.

Working on a Royal Navy sloop next…Will post pics when done…

Monkeywithtacos09 Nov 2014 6:51 p.m. PST

And here we have the HMS Europa, a Nassau sloop. This one is from the sculpt that Brian at Sea Dog Studios/Sailpower ran as a special for "Talk like a pirate day". In a few of the pics you can see some of the assorted British marine minis in my collection from Old Glory and Rebel Minis…

Project is slowly coming along….

If Wingnut happens to read this, I am curious as to how you did your water "tiles" with the acrylic lighting fixture covers….
