I am going to be in Cincinatti the week of Thanksgiving. Any recommendations on things to do, places to go, or people to meet?

Thanks.

Avoid the turkey drop.

I though turkeys could fly.

DO NOT EAT THE CHILI. Seriously.

  • The Zoo is great.
  • Mount Adams is a great boutique/restaurant area. Lots of live music on weekends. We always liked the Blind Lemon.
  • Get ice cream at Aglameses Brothers in the Oakley neighborhood. Best in the city.
  • Get tacos and awesome margarita's at Nada's downtown.
  • Get the gnocchi at Nicola's.
  • The Museum center in the old train terminal is very good, especially for kids.
  • Wander through Eden Park and stop by the conservatory.
  • Wander through Clifton over by the University. Great shops, cafes, clubs.
  • If River Bend is open see who's playing.

A ride to Dayton to see the Museum of the United States Air Force would be on my must do list! If you even like planes a little you wont be disappointed!

My first thought of places to go in Cincy was: somewhere else.

I agree with justBill. The USAF museum is a great day trip.

The AF Museum is well worth the hour or so drive.

Another vote for the AF Museum, but if you can manage it, I'd strongly suggest you go on a weekday before Thanksgiving. It will be very crowded the weekend after the holiday, in fact the Friday after Thanksgiving is typically their busiest day of the year.

Do you like Ancients? Classical Mediterranean era?

The Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park charges no admission and had a good collection of knick-nacks that Dr. Nelson "Rivers in the Desert" Glueck hauled back from his various digs in the Levant. Worth a stroll through that gallery. If you like art museums you could spend several days in this one.

Forgot to mention that the Newport Aquarium is just across the river.

I don't agree with Extra, I love Cincinnati Chili. But it is not a spicy southwestern chili, and it's served over spaghetti. Also try Graeters ice cream.

Pay no attention to BW1959. I have it on good authority he is in the pocket of "Big Chili."

Cincinnati "chili" is neither spicy nor smoky; is served over spaghetti with mounds of cheddar cheese.

I repeta DO NOT EAT THE CHILI. You'll thank me later.

Graeters is goid ice cream, Aglamesis Brothers is better.

Ever see Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle? Or White Palace? White Castle is also authentic Cincinnati home-town cuisine. Best appreciated at 3 in the morning after a night of heavy drinking. A dozen original sliders, half a dozen onion chips and a super-size coffee will do you right. Huuuurrrrrpppp.

I can put in a second vote for the Newport Aquarium, we had fun there with my niece.

Until you wake up in the morning. The chili is a safer choice. But Skyline rather than Gold Star.

Other options…

Dinner at the Senate in Clifton. senatepub.com

Grater's and Aglamesis Brothers duel for the title of best ice cream.

Servatii's for pastries.

The railway museum of greater Cincinnati. Which is located in Kentucky. cincirailmuseum.org

The Cincinnati Observatory is the oldest observatory west of the Alleghenies.

Dicken's A Christmas Carol is a Cincinnati tradition at the Playhouse in the Park. It's very popular so reserve tickets early.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is typically the Ohio State – Michigan game. Visit a bar / pub and enjoy the game.

Do you like hockey? There's a few options Miami University hosts two matches on 11/21 and 11/22 (the weekend before Thanksgiving)

Watch the Bengals?

Clays Russians10 Sep 2014 4:09 p.m. PST

Ahhhhhhhh, the old one still battle in their dotage, Gold star or skyline, and if your really really -------really an old Queen City-ER, there's Empress chili too……. I dig all three, but as god is my witness, I remember sitting in a booster seat and eating Skyline in the old Hydepark location in the early 60s.

Ad nauseum, Cincinnati is a baseball town, always has been, always will be.
