I'm thinking of converting (turning from the dark side?) my 25mm to 15mm SiFi. What figures do you use for IG? Orcs? Mechaicum? SAT |
darebear | 05 Sep 2014 3:31 a.m. PST |
GZG NAC 15mm infantry fit perfectly for Imperial Guard. GZG has Alien Mercenaries which fit well for Orks. Forget trying to acheive exact duplicates or repalcements. Instead, focus on broad concepts and pick figures which you like, rather than trying to replicate GW sculpts. GZG UNMC Hardsuit Infantry works well for Tau for example and GZG NI Infantry work well as Eldar. |

Thanks, that is what I am planning on – not exact, but acceptable kinda look-a-likes that "fit" the "period". I like the GW stuff, but not the size nor the rules. Also, what about a Space Marine types? SAT |
BaldLea | 05 Sep 2014 3:53 a.m. PST |
Try these for Mk6 beakie type marines: link |
Umpapa | 05 Sep 2014 5:31 a.m. PST |
Non-Orcs: GZG Alien Mercenaries (bulkier then humans) goes along very well with Kurgan Rebel Minis (little bit less bulky, a bit more spiky ears, bit goblinorcish). Non-Eldar: tak a look at some of Blue Moon manufacturing. link |

Here are some of my proxies: Orcs:
Chaos Cultists:
Eldar: link Eldar War Walker: link Marines:
link Terminators:
and the best news, Onslaught Miniatures onslaughtmini.com is going to release their amazing 6mm figs in 15mm so you will have great Tau, Sisters of Battle, Dark Eldar, Chaos, and Tyranids too. Guard is easy, do any sci fi humans in mid tech gear you want and you are there. Enjoy. Lead Addict |

The Ion Age retained knights would also make excellent Space Marines. -Will |

I love the (very heroic-scaled) 28mm ones, but found the IA 15's to be too skinny. Well, it's their LEGS, really. I would at least green-stuff their shanks to make them look more like 40K marines. |
Tehakla | 05 Sep 2014 9:50 a.m. PST |
The Zidhe from 15mm.co.uk would make good eldar too link |

Flytrap Factory makes some very good Cadian IG proxies: link And Proxie has your Leman Russ and Basilisk vehicles: link Rebel Minis' Titan APC makes a good Rhino, and their Earth Force APC is a good fit for a Predator: rebelminis.com/eafove.html |

Just my opinion, but I like Khurasan's Neo-soviets best as potential IG. They even have a commissar. But lets face it. Any model that fits these simple qualifications can be Guardsmen: 1. Light or no body armour. 2. A rifle 3. Human. |

1/72 or 1/75th M113 make great Rhinos. |

BaldLea beat me to it! TMP member Gunnar Dunbar has been doing some really awesome work on his 15mm 40K project and is a great source of inspiration. |

I made a 15mm Space Ork army using GZG's Alien Mercenaries and some scratch-built vehicles:

I have a lot of work to do on each of these armies and also plan on doing these armies from already available figures. Catachens – converted blue moon FIW Indians Praetorians – converted blue moon colonial Brits (although there are now sci fi Victorian Brits available from several manufacturers, Highlander studios do some) Adaptus mechanicus – converted Khurasan and UK.15mm figs Adaptus Arbites – converted UK.15mm figs Traitor legion – will decide later Eldar – various Dark Eldar -various And tyranids – converted Khurasan space demons. |

Gunner, that's some absolutely amazing work. I saw your Tau and marines before, I didn't realize just how much you've done now. |

WOW… so much available. Thanks guys. Looks like I'll have a lot of work to do studying the avaliable lines. Stephen

Hi! I'm working away on some Orks and Squat proxies in 15mm scale at the mo: link link All the best! |
richkurtin | 06 Sep 2014 5:54 a.m. PST |
Pico Armors NVL line works nice as Guard too… and there are some extras like Zombies, special weapons, officers and tech types mixed in as well. link …and who knows… you can always go somewhere with the Space Worms too! :-) |
Capt Flash | 06 Sep 2014 5:54 a.m. PST |
Ion Age and Laserburn absolutely would be my first stop for 15mm 40K. Brigade Models has some great proxies, especially their Neo Sovs APC. Old Glory 15s Blue Moon are great for a lot of stuff for 40K. -Edgar |
erraticassassin | 06 Sep 2014 11:02 a.m. PST |
I'm working away on some Orks and Squat proxies in 15mm scale at the mo… Any chance of a few more of those Niflung sculpts? Head swaps for the riflemen, more heavy weapons, that sort of thing… The existing sculpts are nice but variety's limited – a few more would make the range much more useable. |
Capt Flash | 06 Sep 2014 10:29 p.m. PST |
Space Cow, Octa Chaz, and Gunner Dunbar, great work there! I'm impressed with your work, however, I'm personally looking to just proxy models as my skill and determination are both lacking for full on conversion and sculpting. -Edgar |
Gunner Dunbar | 07 Sep 2014 2:52 a.m. PST |
That's the thing, all the figures I have used can be used without really converting them, just give them the appropriate paint job. |
verypoorpainter | 07 Sep 2014 10:07 a.m. PST |
Hi everyone. Long time lurker with an interest in 15mm 40k stuff – Gunner Dunbar, I've been looking at your stuff a lot, it's silly good. Here's another option for proxy space marines: link Desteria Knights from theionage, with the helmets trimmed down. They're chunkier than other ionage figures and feel a bit more 'true-scale'. And how about these for Grey Knights: link ? |
Capt Flash | 07 Sep 2014 1:00 p.m. PST |
I'll second the vote for Desteria Demis, it's what I've gone with. Haven't gotten to them yet, though. -Edgar |

Its amazing how much that marine without a helmet looks like the photo of you on the blog Gunner. have you though t about making your own line of minis? |

The more I'm painting Armies Army Brits the more I see they'd look very good as IG. Z |

Is it wrong that I love these threads as much as I do? I love the Laserburn line for the old school Rogue Trader feel. |
Spacecow Smith | 09 Sep 2014 12:06 a.m. PST |
Hi! Alas the Space Vikings were a commission and I've not been asked to make any more. I do have a load of 18mm scifi sculpts that I am working on at present which I will be selling off over the next couple of weeks though including some chaps who would work well as part of the Space Viking range… All the best! |
Gunner Dunbar | 09 Sep 2014 2:49 a.m. PST |
"Its amazing how much that marine without a helmet looks like the photo of you on the blog Gunner. have you though t about making your own line of minis?" Yeah, funny that, I have considered trying to do my own line, but there is now so much choice in 15mm, all done by better sculptors than myself, that I don't think I could really compete. |
