So, last year, my friend and I got interested in this system and the beautiful figures. We bought into the Kickstarter with two different 'armies' each, and rules, etc.

Unfortunately, my friend had been sick for a couple of years, and last fall, everything caught up with him and he passed away.

As a result, I haven't had much interest in pursuing the game system.

I don't hear much about it either. Just curious if anyone has tried the game, is playing regularly, etc.?

I've played it three times in the last month and am running games of it at Con On the Run this Saturday here at Bushy Run Battlefield.

jefritrout04 Sep 2014 11:20 a.m. PST

I play it about once a month, and am running a demo at Fall-In.

Prince Alberts Revenge04 Sep 2014 11:55 a.m. PST

It gets played fairly often here in Northern Virginia. I sent a PM to you.

I'll be painting my (skirmish) armies soon, as I finaly found a friend who is interested too.

The game is most certainly not dead. There has just been a second kickstarter, with a new book and lots of new miniatures.

I have one skirmish army painted. The other is going to have to wait a few months until I am retired. Then I will play.

Glad to hear it's still a good, "going" concern.

I hope you guys that are running 'Con demos post some pics later! It would be nice to check out those games, but traveling from Manitoba, Canada to the US east coast (roughly speaking) just won't work out… :-(

there are 3 or 4 of us in Toronto who bought into the 1st Kickstarter (and a couple went back for more in the 2nd) but none of us have anything painted up yet so we're not playing .
too many projects , too little time !

myxemail04 Sep 2014 3:17 p.m. PST

About six to eight of us are playing it at least once a month up here in Maine. With 28mm figures.

OK, I'm intrigued. For those who are playing; is this a good game, and why do you like it?

badger2204 Sep 2014 5:09 p.m. PST

I play 3-4 games a year of it, which includes games at cons to get more interest.

i like it, in part because it covered something I dont know much about. It seems expensaive, but if instead of thinking of it as a rule book, think of it as a set of rules and a handfull of ospreys then it is a lot more reasonable.

What i dont like is that there are no historical battles in it at all. I realize that the rules are not meant to cover the major battles, but I cant believe that there where only major battles, no smaller ones that could be covered by the rules. And there is so little information on the period in English I have not found anything to put on a game besides made up games.

what I do like about game constrruction is that while there are points, you can only spend them to get historical formations. So no Hussar alone armys and such like sillyness. I like that they cover 6 different armys,so lots of variety, and lots of great photos. Normaly I dont like photos in rules, because I already have plenty of them. In this case though, I dont.

I like that they are a very approachable company and are quite willing to talk about issues. great bunch of guys in fact.

It has the look of DBA about it. I haven't delved into the rulebook too hard yet – IS IT like DBA?

Badger22,
There were more than a few middle sized actions and a huge number of skirmishes. The problem is that there is seldom enough information to write a scenario since we don't know the terrass, how the forces deployed and so on.

badger2206 Sep 2014 6:03 p.m. PST

Daniel I would be happy with just a rough order of battle and a rough look at the terrain.

Didnt any of the Polish noblemen keep diarys or journels or some such? i realize the farther back we get the fewer accounts there are and the harder it is to figure out what was going in. For some reason I thought the Swedish forces kept better records than that. Is this incorrrect, or ois there just a gap for this particular period?

it sounds like this makes the thirty years war look well documented. Is this true, or it is it again a case that nobody has bothered to translate any of this into English?

Anyway thanks for the explination.
