hello

I like and own the Warlord Hussars (though one of the horses is a bit wierd) but obviously, by themselves they hardly make an army. And while there might be more in the pipeline we'll have to wait till everyone gets bored of ww2 first.
TAG apparently do nice figures but their website is under construction…
Foundry is a bit pricier than Id like (or at least it is if you tend to buy in dribs and drabs like me) and their polish range is pretty limited in poses and variety.
Old Glory: much cheaper but quality is a bit hit and miss, and you cant tell untill they arrive (hardly any online pics!)

Are there any other ranges or models from completely unconected ranges that would suit that Ive not found at all?

Redoubt has a range. It isn't bad.

It is limited in poses as well, much like the Foundry one. Still the figures are respectable and you can make an army with them.

They will mix with the Warlord figures too.

A lot of the Warlord stuff will work with your army as well. There were western european troops in Polish armies.

Although if you haven't got further than the one boxed set you might want to try it in 15mm as it is a lot easier with all the cavalry you will need on the table.

There is also the old Hinchcliffe range, which is a wee bit variable, and very short of poses by today's standards, but their Winged Hussar is still a wonderful figure.

Not sure how compatible it is with the other ranges though.

The Redoubt range will increase this year I believe.

The intention is to do a range in 28mm for By The Sword And Flame.

Winston Smith04 Sep 2014 4:56 a.m. PST

Essex has a fine range.

The TAG ones are very nice. I didn't know their website was down. I'm in a similar position, I have the Warlord Hussars myself, and was looking to build an army at some point!

I'm sure I heard that Warlord were planning Polish foot,it may have been mentioned on their forum.

OG's Eastern Ren line is one of their very best!

There is a list of manufacturers to browse through here…

I have a ton of the OG figures for winged hussars, cossacks, and related and they are very good. I would not worry overmuch about quality of OG on these--I find the OG winged hussar figures better than the Warlord ones.

Right now, awaiting the painting of the Warlord Hussars, my Poles are a combination of Redoubt (a few hussars, 1-wingers),Essex (again, a few hussars, but 2-wingers), lots of OG, and a pretty fair bit of TAG. The Redoubts loom a bit, the Essex are fine, and I find the OG 2-wingers OK, but in desperate need of lance replacement. TAG's 1-wingers are pretty much perfect for my taste, but no 2-wingers! As I went a "little" overboard on hussars, I can do both early and late 17th C. in cavalry. Both the TAG and OG pancerni are quite nice, as are all the rajtars and cossack-types. The Hinchliffe 2-wingers are beautiful, a bit fiddly to put together, and were originally in an almost 30mm size, so fit in pretty well with modern 28's.

Interestingly, both OG and TAG went for early polish foot (haiduks), which are from the earlier period…I added axes laid aside on the ground for some attempt at transitions into the mid-17th. No one makes late 17th C polish foot except for the dragoons, so you need to use western european ("German") mercenaries – ECW and TYW, mostly, which (for the purist) only takes you thru the 1660's or so. If Warlord makes the Polish Pike, shot, and axe troops it will fill a gap.

Overall, I like the OG figures very well, the TAG are great, Essex are quite nice, and the Redoubts are an interesting change of pace…but, depending on the time period, late polish foot is lacking.

My Polish army is predominantly OG with one unit of Warlord Hussars and a mix of TAG. Not sure why Ashurman is concerned about the haiduk uniform for later period…
