Like many others on these boards, I've more than a passing interest in the potential for game environments set in the worlds of the Book, PC, and Role Playing Games dealing with the "events" as portrayed in each medium.

While I cheerfully acknowledge the status of "Roadside Picnic" as the inspirational source for much of the gaming material available on this subject, personally, my interest leans towards the environment of the PC and Role Playing Games.

I'm considering approaching Nic at Eureka about a "300 Club" project to create some themed miniatures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe, if diplomatically described, no IP infringement will be involved.

What I need to know is, would there really be a consensus about the type and variety of figures to be sculpted. Just fuzzy thoughts at the moment, but I'm looking for something a little less generic than just more "armed civilians".

Some of the protective clothing ensembles portrayed and described would be distinctive features of such a range.

If an already existent range of anything close to this subject is available in 15mm, somebody please let me know. So far, I've not turned anything up…..

Thoughts, fellow Gamers?

I think there's definitely a need for them. There's a lot of human models out there, but nothing that quite fills this need as well as they could.

Would be incredibly simple in terms of modeling too. Four tiers of infantry ranging from the hooded scavengers with hunting or sawn off shotguns, pistols and SMGs to light armoured men with SMGs, combat shotguns and rifles. Then medium body armour with rifles (mix of AKs, AR-types, etc.) some with LMGs perhaps and for top tier, well armoured load-bearing exo-frames like those we're starting to see crop up now in prototype stages with more modern russian and western rifles. Some specialist types for each tier with scoped rifles or actual sniper rifles.

We already have modern military that would be suitable for covering that part of it and possibly for beefing up Duty a little, since they receive so much equipment and funding as a paramilitary group.

No need for different modeling for "Factions" since simple paint work will differentiate. I'm actually playing through Clear Sky for the 3rd time now and I'm noticing even in game there's not a lot of difference between various suits other than Freedom and the Mercs wearing more western gear and the padded shoulders on the Clear Sky suits. Might need some models specifically in something resembling the Sunrise pattern suit since nearly every faction uses some version of it as their medium armour.

I'm sure the relatively generic nature of such a line would do it a lot of favours for people looking for post-apoc models or generic insurgents/terrorist/irregulars/paramilitary/etc.

Wolfprophet,

Thanks for coming back to me on this one.

If one goes through the Stalker Wiki, there are several references to the fact that the designers used minor variations of the same NPC model for a several factions. In effect the "paint job" which helps us tell members of the different factions from one another.

I had similar thoughts about the "Sunrise" suit. Heck, to start with, I'd just be happy with a selection of readily identifiable Bandit types, and Sunrise-suited figures with some differences in masks/headgear and weapons (and, of course, figures with detectors as well…).

The modding crowd not withstanding… just stick with some of the more iconic weapons (as you mentioned).

I've spoken to Nic already, just to give him a heads up. Ultimately, they may need external input on miniatures, since Nic himself has never heard of the original novel, or any of the spun off games.

But no Gauss Rifles. I play mainly Call of Pripyat and, nowadays, I complete all the relevant tasks relating to the darn thing, then leave it somewhere. Too overbalancing.

It's the Panther and Tiger of the STALKER series games.

I agree about the potential generic nature of some of the resulting figures, but I'd be reluctant to promote that feature to a manufacturer. The idea should be that the sculpts support a specific type of Post-Apoc or Dystopian environment. I'd said to Nic, that I'd be looking to sculpts that were not just more ideas for "armed civilians".

I'm looking to 15mm myself but, I could see room for potential 28mm figures too. There have been limited releases of larger minis in (Eastern) Europe.

15mm STALKERS would be great, but I go to Lead Adventure for 28mm.

Didn't the folks at Khurasan minis talk about doing STALKER type figs some time ago?

I thought I'd read this somewhere too…. but was reluctant to mention it because I wasn't sure.

Anyone else hear of this?

Khurasan has some "Zone of alienation" figures somewhere in the pipeline (including some NBC-suited russians that have been sneak previewed) but Jon ain't talking… ;-)
