any recommendations for furniture for the 40's and 50's in 25/28 mm. I have had some luck with toy stores, but I am mainly looking for an overstuffed or wingback chair.

Maybe 1:48/quarter scale doll house furniture.

Take a look at Frontline Wargaming. They have lots of resin furniture and it's reasonably priced and the company is good to work with. Much of what they have would work with the period you are interested in. In terms of size, they show pictures of most of the furniture with 25/28mm figures. I purchased a lot of their stuff (chairs, cabinets, bedroom sets, hotel lobby, general store, library, etc) and I like it a lot. The only thing I bought that I wish was bigger was the sawmill but it's okay. Let me add for anyone reading this who might also be interested in African huts and/or dugout canoes, they sell those as well, and they are great… I mention this because they don't have pictures of those so I gambled and I'm very happy with what I got. Also give model railroad catalogs a go – you want to look for 'S' and 'O' gauge sections. "S" is closest to correct but a lot of 'O' is undersized.

Walthers is the biggest online retailer but it is worthwhile checking out the smaller manufacturers even if they are listed with Walthers as they usually have more details about their products.

Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette is the best magazine for those scales, check your local B&M train store for reduced price back issues if they don't all sell.
