Simon Miller and friends are doing Pydna 168BC game at The Other Partizan this Sunday, 7th September. Simon says that with over 2500 28mm figures this may be one of the largest Ancients games ever on display. Now, I'm not sure if that is true, or should be headed like the Carlsberg advert "Probably the biggest Ancients game ever…" but either way it sounds like well worth a look, especially as the pics he's already put on Facebook are impressive in quality! |

I have fond memories of the myriad hordes at the Big Wheels game hosted by Old Glory at the 1998 Historicon. I fielded nearly 180 infantry and 22 chariots, Hittites There were nearly 14 others there with similar hosts. O G gave out t-shirts to commemorate our participation. Big games can really get the juices flowing. |

I've certainly played in bigger club games. Main one I'm thinking of was a Roman v the Rest back in the mid 70s – 12/15' long table, both sides about 10-12 close order figures deep for most of that length… Actually it was boring as moves took far too long and nothing really happened – the centres didn't even reach each other before it was abandoned. |

I doubt the seventies games would have had such beautiful armies as Mr Miller though… |

Hi chaps, I hope it'll be a bit special. The minis are not just mine, though, there are six of us collaborating to put it on, including mates David Imrie, Craig Davey and Keith from Aventine. If anyone coming to Partizan wants to play, please drop me a line! link Cheers, Simon |

Nah, Sheffield wargames society regularly put more than that on the table. We regularly have four thousand infantry on a table in twenty eight mm ancients. Mind you we have twenty plus feet width of table. |

Back in the early 2000s the Last Square did one of their invitational games using Warhammer Historicals and Duke Siefried's ancients with over 5,000 figures being played at once in a large Egyptian vs. Hittite war. It was pretty amazing. I wish I still had pics. |

I'm looking forward to Sunday. I'm a little nervous that we may finish too quickly; it's just possible that we may get to play it twice! If anyone is at a loose end on Sunday, we can accommodate several more players. Best, Simon |

Good luck with the game Simon! I wish I could be there, but Belgium is just a little bit too far away to jump over for a game. So I'll waith for the pics who will probably show up shortly after. |

Thanks all. It's not about having the biggest army, more about what one does with it! ;-) All packed; hitting the road tomorrow for a long weekend in the Lead Belt. Hopefully photos will follow. Best, Simon |
