Proof that in Hollywood, nobody knows anything.

The title is from Louis B Meyer, famous tyrant, who finally gave in to allow "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in The Wizard of Oz.

A brief history of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", the song.
With a healthy dollop of studio executives, composers, etc who hated the song.
Ironically, it was the only thing to win an oscar in 1939. (It had healthy competition…)

And to drag this into wargaming, what figures would you use for the various characters?
Eureka makes flying monkeys.
I remember a seeing a fantasy spearman way back in the previous century who looked liked the "Wee owe um, we owe we oh!" spearmen.

What about some Janissary types painted up with unusual skin tones and clothing? Not spears, but you could likely snip and drill to include some halberds or something.

Look for the Clarecraft figure of Granny Weatherwax standing, she makes a good Wicked Witch.

RavenscraftCybernetics03 Sep 2014 7:14 a.m. PST

hydra robot legionaires would make a good tinman.
superfigs does some scarecrows to usr for jack pumpkinhea.
might have to scratchbuild a gump and ticktock.
Janisaries for winkies. (as mentioned above)

Mr Canuck03 Sep 2014 8:17 a.m. PST

RAFM make some nice Scarecrows, although you might want to "de-Horror" them a bit.

Alien Dungeon also has an army of flying monkeys in their Fanticide game

Chalfant03 Sep 2014 8:31 a.m. PST

Thar RAFM Scarecrow Slasher (perhaps with blade removed) looks just about perfect.

Haywire beat me to it by a few minutes, but I'd second the approval of Studio Miniatures Dorothy and company.

How about mins for a Lollipop assault squad. If you've read the books story based on "Wicked". It was the Munchkin population -vs- The Tyrant Wizard of Oz.

I once suggested a simple rearming of the colpacked version of these guys:

The Beast Rabban was much closer to the mark. The Winkies wore furry hats a bit like a busby I guess and big full length coats. I don't think the Janissaries would do them justice.

Actually, here's a link to a pretty accurate winky costume
