Hi folks Last week we tried out the old West End Games Star Wars rules and despite the naysayers had a really fun game! Some photos and thoughts here on my blog… link Drop by and have a look |

Nice use of the Deadzone terrain from Mantic. I was wondering, do you have it glued together or do you take it apart after every game? Matthew |

All glued together…I'd imagine it'd be a pain having to construct it each time, although easier for storing I suppose. |

After you play a few times the games go faster. We really like those rules, and adding in Jedi and bounty hunters, and droids are fun. |

I always thought the rules were pretty solid. They were the first set to use alternating squads rather than simple IGOUGO. My main issue with them was that the vehicle rules could be clunky and you really couldn't fight larger battles in reasonable amount of time. Lack of stats for much of the Clone Wars era also made me stop using them. Thanks,
John |

Thanks. I have been putting some of mine together and have wanted to see what others have done. I am leaning towards gluing them. |

I believe these rules were out way before Clone Wars was even thought about. 8) |

Looks like a great game. Can I ask what minis you used? Some look like they are the old WEG minis from when the rules were released… Some do not (are they they more modern plastic versions used for the "Kilx" game?) I still have an almost pristine set of these rules, and wouldn't mind digging them out and giving them another run. |

I still quite like those rules. They could be a bit cumbersome at times, but I dig their old school feel. If only the old mini line was still around! Instead I had to amass hordes of the pre-painted plastics. |

I have played those rules and had some fun games, in fact I still will use them when I pull my large WEG miniatures game collection out of storage. |

The figures were all from the plastic Star Wars Miniatures range from Wizards of the Coast, apart from the Speederbike which is one of the WEG minis. The earlier WotC figures are really good although the quality seemed to decline as time went on (.and the figures became more and more obscure!) |

Can you still buy these rules? |

John: if you look at this website, you can find the RPG stats for most things Star Wars. link If I recall correctly, the minis rulebook tells you how to convert RPG stats to the game. |

Not sure if they're still in print but copies occasionally surface on EBay. |

WEG also has (or had?) the D6 Space rules for free on DrivethruRPG Reading that should give you an idea of whether the rules suit you or not. I imagine you already know how you feel about the setting. |

Here is a link to the 3rd edition of the rules. It is 99% of the 2nd edition. It was created by a fan on the SWMB yahoo group with input from the original author. I've gone through and compared them to the 2nd edition and they are almost the same. This also has stats for Clone Troopers, Gungans, and Battle Droids as produced by a couple of the SWMB group members. West End Games lost the license to the Star Wars just around the time Phantom Menace was released and they never released anything from the prequels. Fair warning, it is a large file, just shy of 400MB link While the core of WEG D6 Space is pretty much the same core of the old West Eng Games Star Wars RPG, it's different enough from the Star Wars RPG and then the miniatures game that I don't think it's a good suggestion. |

Many years ago, a friend of mine streamlined the WEG rules and ran a largish scenario at Southern Front. The game flowed really well. He had stats for clone wars and had a kitbash of Darth Maul which I renamed Darth Mild because he could not hit the broad side of a barn with his saber staff. If I recall right, each player got about 10 figures of which one was a character and the others cannon fodder. The object in this scenario was to rescue/capture the shot down rebel pilot. nice looking game Alistair! |

We always enjoyed playing that system. It had its flaws but after we tinkered a bit it was pretty solid |
