This is where we (when I was an Ancients gamer…) used to veer into fantasy. No one ever fielded them without a healthy dollop of "Wouldn't it be cool if these really existed?" They were as "Claudian" as Claudian got. Mine were the "old" Garrison Persian types. I really think the Greenwood and Ball Garrison Persian cavalry from the late 70s would fit in well today. The Garrison Parthian ones were just too … plain. Nowhere near as many plumes as one would require. Having got that off my chest, I like that paint job and LOVE the groundwork. |

OFM I got a 10 camel cataphracts from Garrison a 3 months ago for my Early Achaemenid army, having held onto 10 riders for about 30 years as I didn't know who made the camels! They came out rather well surprisingly. I bought 5 light camels which are a little less well done for some reason. The above are really well done. Congratulations. |

Nice paint job!!! Digging through my old Ebay hauls I discovered that the 8 unpainted Palmyran camel guards are actually intended to be cataphracts. Looking at the figures it appears that someone along the line took 8 armored camels and added 6 of one brand of cataphract figure and two of another to build his 'unit.' At least the 'spread' on the cataphracts is a bit less than required to match the camels width… This has me wondering whether I should just pick up some horses for the cataphracts as, as per comments, camel cataphracts are historically moot. But then what to do with 8 armored camels? P.S. Have a feeling it was the same collection that they came from, have some Midianite camel riders and some 'arab horsearchers.' The camels and archers are old Chariot figs. So are the archers from the horse archer lot. Looks like someone along the line 'dismounted' one each of the camel rider pair to use as horse archers. As the references imply doubt as to whether the Midianites regularly mounted two archers on each camel I am undecided as to whether to 'regroup' the riders, buy another dozen camels for them, or just go with the current situation. Decisions, decisions… |

I like what I see. I have a few in My 15mm Palmyrian and Parthian armies. Essex and Viking Forge were my main sources for Camel Cataphracts. |
