Been back dipping into the Cold War Campaign which is still on day 1 morning some time in 1985. I was looking back through the BAOR game and the ORBAT they had for the Soviets. Essentially the reinforcements are the 5 and 7 GTA from the Belorussian MD. What is misses (or appears to miss) is the potential for the WP units in Poland. During a conversation at a dinner in the late 1990s a member of the Polish delegation let slip that the objective of his cold war unit was the sennelager/paderborn area, he got a swift shut up from his colleague and wouldn't be drawn any further. So….Assuming that the troops in Poland form the largest part of the 2nd Echeleon they could have been expected to reinforce the success north of south of the Harz (and probably north to keep in line with the comment above) and could probably have made the road move in about 12 hours, I am thinking of using Polish formations as well. |

I had thought the Poles were tasked with the capture of Denmark. Still I suppose it's hard to argue with the comments of a Polish officer… |

Polish amphibious and airborne units would have been involved in the attack on Denmark the rest would have probably have been used as discussed above. If you are looking for non Soviet opposition what about the NVA, East Germans, the Soviets considered them the most reliable of the Warsaw Pact forces. Fatman |

Really? I spoke with a Pole and he said when he was in the army they had riots between polish and russian soldiers-their barracks were next to each other. |

As I recall from my days posted to W. Germany (early 80s), the Polish 1st Army was the 2nd echelon for the push across the North German Plain. The Polish 2nd Army was the second wave across central West Germany, reinforcing the Soviet/Czech first wave. link |

The Idea of splitting up a possible Soviet Front and having two axis of advance North and Centre seems odd at first glance, unless the concept is that the entire force is treated as reinforcements for the possible two soviet fronts (Western 1 and 2) rather than also supporting the CGF front…? |

I remember we had Green and Yellow stickies for our maps for the NVA and Polish and I remember than on some of the longer exercises they made an appearance. However even then there was much speculation as to what they would actually do if the balloon went up, in the same way that the Bundeswehr gave the impression that they would be heading East, without passin go!! Tally Ho! |

I've seen maps of the amphibious/helo assaults for Denmark, planned by the Poles/W.P./Soviet Union. Of course, a number of major cities/strongpoints were to be nuked too, in order to aid the advance. |
