Those of you who have bought my PaperTerrain products know that my houses all come with a ruined version of the same building that sits inside the undamaged outer shell. You can lift off the undamaged building to reveal the ruin. This has been a very popular feature of my products. For the ruin I have always done a two-sided print (except for my 6mm products) so that one side shows the outside of the ruin and then on the reverse side I have a sort of gray or brown 'burned-out' pattern printed for the interior. Well, after many years my old printer has finally given up the ghost and I've been forced to get a new one. The new one is significantly more expensive to run than the old one. I was contemplating raising my prices (the first time in 9 years of business) but then the thought struck me that printing that 'burned-out' pattern uses up a LOT of toner. Probably more than the rest of the building. What if I eliminated the printing for the interior of the ruin? It would leave it an unrealistic white, but the person building the model could easily just slop a coat of gray or brown paint on it. So what do you all think? Raise prices and keep the two-sided print, or keep prices the same and leave it off? A few of my products, like my All Quiet on the Martian Front buildings will retain the two-sided print in any case. |

Scott, leaving off the interior sounds like a very wise solution. Mark |

Scott, do you have a rough sense at this point of how much of a price increase would be involved? |
ScottWashburn | 01 Sep 2014 6:51 a.m. PST |
Probably between 10% and 20% depending on the product. |

Scott, your products are a bargain at your current price, and I do not see a 20% hike affecting anything. BTW, the first thing I thought when I saw the AQotMF buildings was how much I would love to have some 28mm AWI buildings. hint hint |

Would it make sense to offer the customer the option of choosing between two versions? A "regular" model without the insides printed, and a "deluxe" version that has the interiors and is priced appropriately? |

Hi Scott, I've had it in mind to buy your products for a while now – a 10%-20% price rise would not affect my choice. As said above – its still very reasonable price for a great product. So, I favour keeping the current format. Cheers Alan |

I would raise the prices. The printed interior is a feature that really sets your products apart. |

Hi Scott, What about a third option: Make the models available as pdfs bought on line? I have no doubt that this would increase your sales on this side of The Pond as shipping costs combined with import customs duties has put me off making several purchases. That venerable gentleman Patrick Wilson at TVAG has been doing it for years and it works well for me. Alan |

If it's not too much trouble to set up, I like the idea of being able to choose between the two options; blank inside or printed inside with +20% increase to the cost. BTW, I'm a repeat customer and have always been very pleased with my purchases! |

I agree about the PDF option. It would be great to have that as an option. Thanks, John |

+1 vote for the PDF option |

I'm on board with the raise prices, but offer a cheaper PDF version for us cost conscious types. |

Wow, wasn't really expecting these answers at all. Seems the printed interior of the ruins is more popular than I thought! I will try to keep them. As for the other suggestions. Offering both options isn't an option. It would mean twice as many different products, twice as many kits to try and keep in stock when I barely have the space to store the ones I've got. No, one or the other, but not both. As for the PDFs, not at this time. For one thing it would take me 6 months to a year to convert the hundreds (thousands?) of pages of graphics I have to PDFs. Second, I simply have no idea what offering PDFs would do to my sales. I've worried about this for years. I'm doing very well selling the hardcopy and I'm afraid of screwing that up. So, let's see what I can do to economize and figure out what sort of price increase I have to make. Thanks for your input! |

Scott your buildings are very reasonably priced. For myself I don't use the ruined options. I do other modifications to give the building a sense of depth. |

Scott, As a long time customer I like them the way they are. Best, Joel |
