Can anyone comment on Strike Legion Platoon for 15mm? It looks like what I am looking for, a both infantry & vehicle game with infantry based as fire teams. Grunts 15mm also looks good. Both are at Wargamw vault. Any comments appreciated.

If you buy Gruntz do yourself a favor and purchase the Gruntz Barracks program.

Would it work to have infantry based as fire teams for Gruntz?

It can be done that way. Personally I prefer individual basing.

Read the first 22 pages of Strike Platoon & I don't see anything about them not to like. They are a generic system that allow you to design your troops at a very detailed point cost. The design system is more extensive than the one in Dirtside.
It is an element based system where each infantry stand is a fireteam. I have 1 faction designed with 5 figures per stand while there opponents have 4 figures per stand. Each team has a team weapon which can be supplemented by support weapons. Each figure fires 1 weapon & so rolls 1 die, which will vary depending on the weapon type (D6, D8, etc.) Each team also rolls a team efficiency die (D6, D8, etc.) The Efficiency die is added to each weapons die. If you beat the opponents defensive value then a Pin, Wound, or Kill is scored.
There is alternating activation of squads, with 2 to 4 stands per squad (depending on your design.) There are simple orders for each squad to choose from. Each turn a squad can do from 0 to 4 orders depending on their training & status. Leaders have separate orders for squads such as Rally.
Haven't read the vehicle rules but they appear to use the same mechanics. Will do scenario #2 & #3 this weekend to learn the infantry rules. I will be surprised if it does not go well as the rules look to be well done.

We tried out scenario 3 which is an infantry ambush with about 20 stands per side. A lower quality, but with a better defense rating (9 vs 8) is ambushed. It was over in 3 turns which took less than 2 hours to play. Not bad for a first game. We used all the infantry rules but the special features (Fearless, ect.) Seems like a well done system. The vehicle rules use similar mechanics. I tend to make whole sale changes in rules but I don't seem much to fiddle with so far.

I base my Gruntz squads as two 3 man fireteams on 1.25" round bases. I use beads to show casualties and its easy to manage.

(Look at my Gruntz AARs here:

The system is super flexible and I have my forces designed at multiple TLs so each faction can have slugthrowers and be repurposed as Beam weapons, etc. Love the customizability there…

KJ was also the author of Strike Legion (obviously), a well-known 6mm combined arms ruleset. He is known for detailed and thorough rules. Sometimes they can get a little too detailed, I think, but they are usally very quality.

I own these rules, but havent played (or even really studied) them.
