As it stands today, the 19th Century Board covers 1815 (post-Napoleonic) to 1900, excluding American Civil War (which has its own board).

Would it be better to divide this century into smaller boards? In other words, keep the 19th Century label, but have it organized in a different way.

a) Yes, divide the 19th Century board by Wars … for example, Mexican-American War, Franco-Prussian War, Colonial Wars, etc.
b) Yes, divide the 19th Century board by years … for example 1815-1830, 1830-1845, etc.
c) No. Leave it the way it is.

Just leave like it is.

I think it should be divided into as many sub-Boards as necessary.
Past history has shown that when you give a period or game its own Board, that the number of threads about that topic increases. That can only be a good thing.

I have been asking for years to have a War of 1812 Board.

I agree with John as it makes it easier to find related items that have not been identified in the title.

20 sub boards 5 yrs each. board topics may only overlap the preceeding or the following board.
no skipping!

Bah. A board should be limited to only a single day's events.

Martin Rapier31 Aug 2014 10:53 a.m. PST

It is fine as it is.

There were so many wars in the ninetenth century, with overlapping timescales, that it would be very hard to come up with a logical division.

I'm for a clearer division of the one board into several sub-boards.

It's hard, for example, as an advertiser to alert possible fans of a, say, Mexican War product when you can only post an item to the entire 19th Century.

If Napoleonics and ACW rate sub-boards, why not Sikh Wars, Indian Mutiny, Mexican War, Franco-Prussian, South American Wars, etc?

My pair of farthings.

How about boards by continent?

RavenscraftCybernetics31 Aug 2014 2:43 p.m. PST

ooo ooo arrange the boards by ammunition calibres!

skippy000131 Aug 2014 3:49 p.m. PST

The 19th Century should be arranged by Proper Attire.

I would much rather have 20 new threads per month on a "Mexican Wars Board" on a fragmented 19th Century Board than 4 on an intact one.
Or 23 on a War of 1812 Board than 3 on an intact 19th C Board.

I cannot understand this antiquated (and I am a card carrying Old Fart!) animus against multiple Boards.

There were a lot of 'Little Wars' in the 19th century. See this Wikipedia entry link

Hence, I would be in favor of sub-boards that break up the 19th century by 15-year increments.

Yes! Divvying up the "19th Century" into decade/decade-and-a-half-two decade slices would be as good a solution as any since it means that wars that might indeed not deserve a dedicated board (e.g. "Revolutions of 1848") don't get lost in the shuffle.

Just post by "Century Slice" and Bob's your Uncle!
