I say chaps, with all the talk in the Colonies of 'patriot' militia' going up against 'evil federal gubbernment' a couple of the fellows thought it would be a jolly good weeze to put on a skirmish game representing this; a sort of "Very American Civil War" as it were.

Now the federals are no problem, plenty of 28mm police, SWAT teams and vehicle out there, even more if we use regular military.

The problem is the 'patriot militia' – you see we have yet to find figures that look like they stepped out of PeopleofWalmart.com

We've considered some 'Hilly Billy' types with the odd American Revolutionary type thrown in, but they don't seem to be, well in line with out concept of what the 'partriots'.

We also thought the 'partriots' should have some mounted troops and thought of something like these:

I have tons of civilians from the USA colonial era which are good all the way to WWI pretty much. Let me know if you want to take them off my hands.

Depends on what type of militia you are going for: New Black Panther Party (urban Black ppl in camo with high powered weapons), ranchers types (White and Hispanic with mainly shotguns and hunting rifles (many on horses or ATVs)) or some of the highly organized militias in the NW of the country with lots of fire power and mainly White.

New Black Panther Party – can't really think of any.

The NW militia types could use almost any Gulf War kit (very few helmets along with SWAT gear). Some of the Red Star minis with stocking caps would work, but would need weapon swaps.

Ranchers or TX/AZ Militia:
Grekwood has a few with more coming that would possibly work (in the UK too):

Change the weapon on this guy:

Some of the Hasslefree guys would also work.

Cowboy figures with modernized weapons mixed in(no spurs or chaps or long duster coats).

Mix in some local police force.

ProjectZeke has some too:

The zombie survivors from Wargames Factory would work for the armed but less-well-equipped folks (no hard body armor).

That said, most police are not federal and what side any would end up in a shooty civil war scenario is anyone's guess, so SWAT figures on the non-gubmint side would work as well.

The Tx State Militia is so well equipped that is was mistaken for a State Trooper swat unit during a rescue of Illegal immigrants from a canal a few months ago…Most milita wear military uniforms and carry modern military type rifles and other gear. To portray US militias as hillbillies with guns wouldn't be accurate but its your game…Mikey

You can also use Cold War troops, especially if you can find them wearing soft or boonie caps, since Cold War military surplus is one of their uniforms of choice.

Mega Minis had a guy riding a souped up riding lawn mower.

Foundry has some figs that would work.

Old Glory/Blue Moon has some biker types.

Killer B Games might have something suitable.

LOL ''evil federal gubbernment'
I can see the civilian reactionaies as middle aged lady's with big a*ses wearing spandex and pokadots with the men in fishing hats and plade and khaki, both packing state of the arty hard wear (M4 carbines/GL etc:) and a willingness to kick ass or go out in a blaze of glory at least add low slung gangstas and the od girl scout and your got the 'true' patriots militia up against the Gubberment.
Check out West Winds ranges some have some good ol boys and bikers and other interesting stuff.
Cheers

Copplestone has a biker gang set, and some hip city cops that could also work as the New Black Panthers.

skippy000131 Aug 2014 3:52 p.m. PST

Don't forget the Gray Panthers…once THOSE people stop getting their checks it won't be pretty.

Killer B Games, yes! I'm glad someone mentioned those geezers because I bought a bunch of civilians, cops, and armed militants from them last year. The armed militants make great Black Panthers, or Brown Panthers, as well, perhaps. It's all in the painting. They have Sixties hair and berets plus longarms.
