Big attractive battlefield, lots of handsome troops, and plenty of players… well done!

Thanks! We had a good time gaming it, and hope to be able to work in a few large games every now and again. This one looked pretty decent, and it was certainly big in the number of miniatures, and the size of the table. Its a new experience, as we have usually focused on smaller battles that we can game in just a few hours.

ps the troops were handsome, the players not so much!

Yes, good looking game. BIG battalions, we use 12 figs per.
What rules did you use.
I like that you sometimes use figs which are not quite correct.
Our game last Thursday we did not have enough Austrians and had to use Prussians.

Age of Eagles… 4 figures per inf base, 2 figures per cav base. We had some units of 12-14 infantry bases… some units of only 4-5 infantry bases, depends on the actual historical roster.

We worked in a few extra Italians, some Prussians filled in for Russians… at the end of the day, we'd rather be able to game it than not. And then we get an idea of what we still need to do other battles.

So if some units are 12 to 14 and others a lot smaller, I'm guessing when you paint all the figures are fairly generic? Or do you paint up a battalion with the maximum number of stands you would use and only use what you need?

I'm busy painting up Prussians, 12 per battalion with each battalion designated, Fusiliers or Musketeers.
Landwehr battalions have their shoulder straps colored for each battalion, white, red, yellow.

When did 12 figures per battalion, become a "big battalion"???

Chalfant02 Sep 2014 7:26 a.m. PST

Its more the way the nationality formed units… each base should be about 360 infantry or 180 cav.

I paint my Prussians with various regional facing, and seniority straps, as you refer to. Since the "unit" of bases represents a formation larger than a single battalion, if one group of Prussians is not large enough, I pull in another.

I am not painting them for specific battles, only to follow general correct uniforms…. so I use them as needed. For example, I parcel out individual bases of Jagers to fill up a brigade roster.
