I just picked up Saga: Crescent and Cross today (sold out of dice, grrrr). Now, I don't have the original rulebook – but is there any reason for getting it ? I think the answer is 'only if you want the battleboards' but wanted to check here as well. Now I do own two expansions (Northern Fury and Raven's Shadow) that I impulse bought knowing I'd get the rules 'someday' but pretty sure C&C is all I need to play with the expansions. Comments ? |

Basically, you are correct. |

That's my understanding. C&C is sort of SAGA 1.1. If I were you, I would only buy the original rules if you want to play the original armies. |

There are also 7 additional scenarios that are in the basic rules. |

You can treat them as two separate games. You don't need one to play the other. If anything C&C is almost a new game, and is written as such. |

I think it is well worth buying the Saga rules and first two supplements. It is a great game. I have bought C&C, but as said earlier I think it should be treated as a seperate game. |

You certainly can treat them as two separate games. Can't think of any particular reason why you should. The original rules are getting FAQed to match C&C, the factions have all been playtested against eachother and there are plenty of great historical matchups (e.g. Franks v Moors) that you can now play. |

yeah, C&C is the improved and new edition of SAGA. no reason to get the first book unless you want the scenarios and original factions. |
