Interesting the drabness of civilian dress.

In that era, men and older women were supposed to dress drably. It indicated a serious mind and responsibility. Not to mention it didn't show the dirt so much and you could go longer between washings. You see splashes of color on some of the younger women. But you don't see too many of them in the photos – they're not risking themselves on the streets until things settle down more.
