It's been a long summer. Between work schedules, a new house draining finances as it should, and my wife demand that we apparently aren't allowed to be bored on the weekends, I haven't gotten much gaming in.
I have, however, snagged a copy of the new D&D Starter Set.
My fellow experimenters are my daughters, ages 3 and 5. When my eldest wanted a breakdown of what the ability scores meant, I gave her lay-child's explanation for them, and she immediately peaked up, "Oh, so this one is Twilight Sparkle?"
And thus Dungeons and Ponies was born:

Beggars can't be choosers.
So far, we're taking it slow, adding or reviewing a couple of rules each session. Spells have been done with picture cards (Charm Person is a Smiley Face, Dancing lights is a Firefly) because my girls are pretty awesome, but their combined age of eight isn't awesome enough to rip through a spell descriptions.
One positive that's come out of playing is that I've wiped the dust off of my fantasy figures and put a few in the queue to paint.
