As per the recent vote – TMP link – the Stifle and Ignore tables have been made invisible except to the moderators.

venezia sta affondando29 Aug 2014 12:45 p.m. PST

and good riddance.

Winston Smith29 Aug 2014 12:47 p.m. PST

I still see them on others' profiles.

I still see them too.

Shhh don't remind him, maybe it's just our computers see them.

The original proposal states (emphasis added):

"The OFM and I have changed our hive mind about publicizing them in the statistics tables, and putting them in a member's profile.

I am glad the Ignore and Stifle statistics tables are gone and look forward to their elimination from the member profiles, too.

"It only took five years. From now on, I'll write two letters a week." laugh

… the OFM and I propose that we keep both the Stifle and Ignore functions, but eliminate any easy access to the statistics for "civilians".

The table showing the rankings may be gone (are they?) but if I can see them in your profile, that is certainly "easy access".
We voted to eliminate "easy access".

Agreed – it's a start, but….

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian29 Aug 2014 5:57 p.m. PST

So I guess my work is not yet done… grin

John the OFM29 Aug 2014 6:01 p.m. PST

Nope. grin

OK, they're gone now from the Profiles, too.

One less thing to argue about.

Some nostalgia for when they didn't really matter though…you know, back in the days of :

"hey, I've got 3 stifles….what's going on ????"

But they've become an object of abuse, so goodbye to the tables with no regrets.

Robert Kennedy29 Aug 2014 6:27 p.m. PST

Yay!!! No more cries of "punishment" or being "punished". No more need for the subject being brought up over and over. I know that some who like to bring it up will be disappointed and will have to find something else to complain about. I can perhaps retire the Stormtroopers! wink LOL.

The FAQ has been updated to reflect the new Stifles situation, and Ignores have been added to the FAQ.

Thanks to etotheipi for helping out!

I wouldn't have expected it…but I feel as though a burden has been lifted from my avatar's shoulders. I feel so much *more free* to be myself. You may want to back the change out before it's too late, Bill.

Tango India Mike30 Aug 2014 5:20 a.m. PST

Thanks for this Bill.

I admit I did like to see how many stifles and ignores a given poster had, but there's no real reason I should have access to that information.

As long as I can stifle and ignore members, I don't really care about whether or not everyone can see the results.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP30 Aug 2014 5:36 a.m. PST

Thanks.

14Bore30 Aug 2014 5:42 a.m. PST

Well then, what's up on your work table then?

kallman30 Aug 2014 8:29 a.m. PST

Hmmm….kind of mixed feelings on this but hey, sure why not.

Of late I have considered giving up my TMP habit as there is just not very much that makes it worthwhile anymore, or so it seems. We have lost some excellent posters over the last couple of years because of misanthropes. Until recently I never stifled or ignored but there have been some who have been beyond the pale in terms of rudeness and just plain lack of common sense that I had started to use the features. We will see if this tones things down to a more civilized level and we can focus on war games and miniatures.

What no more wearing a scarlet letter? So much for public humiliation.

I just think it's nuts that we needed a poll to decide to do this in the first place.

Was there a poll for the new harassment and cheerleading rules? What about the funniest rule of all, not to disparage news sources?

Screen shot taken. wink

There was a moment, back there, when I was the stifle head kahuna, a very brief moment it was. Now even that memory is without significance, since the criteria for being number one has been removed. If only it could have never been in the first place, think of all those man hours wasted responding to the topic of stifles, and they can never be recovered.

Oh well, live and learn. The "era" when stifles existed in the public venue was a short one, and hopefully a soon to be forgotten one….

Wait, thats not an actual thing is it?!

In my experience, creating the opportunity for people to not waste time on something enables them to waste time on something else.

Yup.
