Does anybody knows which nations are covered by this book?

Martin Rapier29 Aug 2014 10:21 a.m. PST

England, in various wars and incarnations (from the Monmouth Rebellion through to the WSS), plus sundry internal opponents (mainly various Jacobite armies).

France, again in various incarnations and wars.

Plus Austria, Bavaria, Denmark, Netherlands, Italian States, Prussia, German States, Portugal, Spain.

Well, thta is what I can glean from the contents page.

It is isn't really laid out by nationality but by period. It certainly seemed comprehensive enough for my purposes.

Thank you very much, Martin! Does it have anything about the spaniards pre-1701?

davbenbak30 Aug 2014 7:19 a.m. PST

No, not that I can see. While the book starts in 1685 it only focuses on British and French armies prior to 1701.

Sandinista30 Aug 2014 9:29 a.m. PST

Seems to be selling for about £30.00 GBP, is it worth the price?

Oh Bugger30 Aug 2014 2:12 p.m. PST

No, its handy enough but not worth that much imho. Its old now and you could probably find out more visting the LOA site.

Thank you Davbenbak! I think I won't be buying this one.

Sorry to resurrect this thread.

A couple of points. If you have an interest in this period, then I would suggest that this book is very useful (and a great read). However, an extended version of the contents were re-published as "Armies & Uniforms of Marlborough's Wars", parts 1 & 2. Part 2 deals with Southern Europe incl Italian States and Spain / Portugal.

Hope this helps.
