Is there any interest for us to devise a generic dozen-odd questions that explore TMP members interest in miniatures figures, painting, wargaming, etc? A kind of meet the neighbours experience? It could form another of the much loved statics charts. For me, mainly Airfix, Essex Miniatures, Wargames Foundry, Perry Miniatures, the universe! 25mm – 28mm – 15mm – 10mm – back to 28mm, but mainly as a collector. Oh, and Action Man and Johnny West (the cowboy and his chums and horses, wow!) |

Your topic and your first post are not the same thing venezia. Interests IN games has nothing to with the ticking of TMP. Ineterest in this or that figure, scale period etc., are all givens, and by the way, debated and issued long ago. What makes TMP tick, that is, why do people come here and post here and what they post is a clean different thing. |

TMP has tick's! I'm sure there is a shampoo wash available for that. |

Interests IN games has nothing to with the ticking of TMP This would appear to be the most accurate statement of the day |

OK, thanks. Awful title, perhaps the editors can assist somehow in improving it. Thanks. I should like to continue with the questions. |

In the spirit of your post then, a timeline: Airfix>Space Crusade>Space Marine>40K 1st ed>40K 2nd ed>Necromunda>slight break>Warmachine>Confrontation>2nd break>FoW>Firestorm Armada>Bolt Action+Infinity+Dreadball+Saga+a half dozen others 26 years into the hobby and I'm more into it now than ever. |

The need to Know. The need to Talk. The need to Share. and pretty much see how far we can find a Truth. That's what makes TMP tick |

I don't think that any of you are really taking this post very seriously. |

O Schmidt- Thanks for the enlightenment. And thanks for answering the OP. This is exactly why we run off the tracks so often. |

If you hear ticking when you log onto TMP then perhaps there is a bomb or an old-fashioned clock near your computer! What I like about TMP is the collective knowledge and wisdom to be found in its members. I have learned a great deal from the posts which I have read on the site about history, current events, painting miniatures and wargaming. Also, the pictures of others' games, terrain and miniatures inspires and fuels my own gaming and painting when I start to slack off and get lazy. Thirdly, the vast majority of the posters on TMP are very affable folk and are a pleasure to chat with. Finally, it is good, cheap fun and it keeps me off the streets where I might start causing trouble. Cheers. Rod Robertson. |

my guess is the nightly time outs which lucky for me is 0200hrs or so. It may not make it tick, but may keep it from ticking or going KABOOM! |

Hello, neighbour. Not sure what dozen question you have in mind, so I'll just go free-style. In the spirit of being neighbourly, I blame my younger brother. He began with ancients and is a marvelous painter. I knew nothing about composing an army list, painting, gaming…living my life in blissful ignorance. He said "I'll order the army, show you how to paint it, help you compose army list, etc, etc.". About a month later a parcel arrives with a 25mm Selucid army by Naismith. In the interim, he gave me some Ral Partha Athenians to practice painting, and all the tools. It has been out of control since, from ancients to ECW, Napoleonics, all of the World Wars, and every manufacturer from Foundry, Perry Bros and Elite to Hovels, Snapdragon (still miss Kerry), Ainsty (yes, have the original ships, too : ) and Grand Manner. Every scale, and multiple scales for some ranges, but mostly 28mm these days. Working currently on lovely Warlord 1:56 Crusaders to support the Perry plastics for N. Africa.. Club gaming, shows, but mostly gaming with the same lot for the past 20 years in the home of one of my mates. The loft and library are no longer threatening an implosion due to plastics and the advent of the digital age. So, come on over and we'll go for curry and discuss when I'll finally finish painting those original Naismith Selucids. You can help me kick my brother in the arse! |

Condotta, You, sir, are a gentleman. You and Pete Melvin. We continue to uphold the true tradition of TMP – I pose a (naff) question about miniatures and you both answer it. Thank you. To the rest of my responders – The New Breed – you must try harder at the miniatures lark. God bless you all. |

Anymore, TMP is merely an old habit. It's the only forum I participate on at all (aside from the odd comment over a news article here or there)…. |

For me, I come because magazines aren't enough and are generally too repetitive. There is more instant communication, pleasant dialogue (the majority) and I learn things I didn't know. It is like an open university for wargamers. |

What SHOULD make TMP "tick" is a sense of camaraderie, collegiality, and sociability available on a short term basis. People should be happy to talk to others and socialize with them, even though they may disagree with each other and hold different points of view and interpretations of history. War Games is not a cure for cancer, world hunger, or drops that spot, and nothing is going to be proved, verified, validated, or affirmed here. People like to talk to other people who are interested in the same things. They feel less isolated and less alone. TMP can't do this, we all have to do it. |
