Anyone played this? Is it any good or should I just buy dinos and hunter types and use rules like THW for something similar? Thanks! |

The combat in the game is very simplistic. You roll a number of D6 based on how many rifles you use and whether or not you have Indian or apeman allies and tally them up. You then compare that tally to a D6 plus the dino rating. If you equal or exceed the dino number, you chase off the dino. Otherwise the dino chases you back to camp and you lose goodies along the way. The game is a unique blend of traditional boardgame (game track along the outside that looks somewhat like a monopoly track), a hex based board game (for exploring the lost plateau in the middle of the board), and going on a scripted adventure via a clever use of comic strips. The goal is to collect adventure points by going on adventures, collecting various items needed to get off the plateau, then being the first one off after accumulating 25 adventure points. And there are chance cards involved too. More information, including reviews, can be found at link . I've played it with my two of my grandsons. The oldest lost interest after a game where he had accumulated 25 points, had stuff to get off the plateau, and was on his way to where he needed to be to exit when he had to draw an event card. It turned up to be a unfavorable event. The card stated that a pterosaur soared down, grabbed an item at random, and then flew off with it causing the player to lose the item and 3 points. The random item rolled turned out to be an essential item to get off the board. His comment upon reading it was "are you kidding me!?" When I read the card I made the huge mistake at laughing at the absurdity that he should draw this event card at that time. Grandsons do not like it when you laugh at something bad that just happed to them in a game. |
