Recently got Black Powder and was thinking of
using them for Maximilian in Mexico.
Was wondering if anyone had gone down that
route yet.

I was planing to do it.
I am quite sure the "Black Powder" rules would work just fine for the period.
But I got distracted by some other project (AWI/Rebelion). : )

Don't know why they wouldn't work. Is there an ACW supplement out yet?

Most of the actions were small, with the company the basic unit. Black Powder uses the battalion as its maneouvre element.

A unit, is a unit, is a unit.

We use it for small scale colonials, and have used it for the Maximillian adventure at company scale.

Your battalions become companies, with battalion commander and attached single guns.

Not hard is it.

I recommend you seek out the Skirmish Campaigns book covering the Max in Mexico campaign. Even includes a Major Dundee scenario. Scenarios compatible with BP, I believe.

We intellectual pygmies shrivel in the shadow of your magnificent, razor-sharp mind, grandtactical.

Do I sense a decent flame war about to kick off? Seconds out …

We used it for 1848 in Hungary/Balkans, it handles it quite well – BP still works fine if you count the basic unit as something smaller than a battalion. It handles irregulars quite well too.

We also used Songs of Drums & Shakoes for small actions

Sorry to disappoint, but… a mere flash in the pan, I'm afraid, RM.

Black Powder is a nice "game" system I find it works really well for AWI as commercially available Also the AWI supplement is well organized
