…with Sedad 23mm cannon. "Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari underlined the high capabilities and advancements made by the Iranian defense industry in designing and manufacturing military equipment, and said his forces have recently received a new version of the BTR-60PB armed with 23 mm anti-aircraft twin-barreled automatic cannon. The 23 mm cannon, which has been optimized under a project known as "Sedad", is mounted on the BTR-60PB 8x8 armoured personnel carrier. The BTR-60PB is Soviet-made 8x8 armoured vehicle personnel carrier (APC) which was developed in the late 1950s to replace the BTR-152 6x6 APC and was first seen in public in 1961. The standard BTR-60PB is equipped with a one-man turret mounted in the centre of the vehicle. For the Iranian version, the turret is removed and the vehicle is fitted with a ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft weapon system…"

Trying to be impressed here, but… At least it can be fired under-armor. Damon. |

I know people like to make fun of the Iranians but an APC converted to carry a light AA gun isn't that bad an idea. Imagine the dual 23mm cannon can make quite a mess of troops on the upper floor of a building. |

I'd agree -- 23mm rounds would be good for killing thin-skinned vehicles, up to and including M113's and their variants. Not sure about Strykers or Bradleys, though. |

Isn't the Stryker only supposed to be proof against 14mm or am I imagining things? It doesn't look like the gun depresses that far though so might not be relevant. |

14th Brooklyn you are right. I have a vision of an Iranian Diplomat going to Home Depot and buying 600 $20 USD security cameras to send home. |

Don't forget the cans of Krylon spraypaint for the camo…. :) Damon. |

That is probably true, but when the article makes the quote "Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari underlined the high capabilities and advancements made by the Iranian defense industry in designing and manufacturing military equipment," about something every 3rd world country has probably done at one point or another does make it a bit more humorous… :) Damon. |

That is kind of a halfassed paint job, seems they would do a better job when show casing a new version. |

It is the most cunning camouflage! "Let's not shoot at that piece of crap. They can't even be bothered to do a real paint job on it!" |
javelin98 | 29 Aug 2014 3:53 p.m. PST |
They'll just Photoshop in the camo they want afterwards. |

They can't afford BTR-80s? |
