OK, someone's got to ask, in the interest of ensuring more of us don't accidentally cross the line and waste more of the editor(s)' time… Where's the profanity in saying "silly Americans"? Neither word (separately or together) is profane, is it? We'll be stoning people for saying 'Jehovah' next… |
Royston Papworth | 28 Aug 2014 4:34 a.m. PST |
lol! This involves that curiously Anglosphere concept of Free Speech, so I think most 'Mericans would be happy with that, just don't ask them to give up their firearms… |
Rrobbyrobot | 28 Aug 2014 4:37 a.m. PST |
I'm an American. And I can be pretty silly. There, I said it and I feel better… Now, somebody please tell me how this is profane. |
Jeigheff | 28 Aug 2014 4:43 a.m. PST |
Gunfreak seems to be a gentleman, at least to me. So I wanted to read what he wrote in its complete context. But unlike the profiles of the other Dawghouse occupants, there wasn't a link to what Gunfreak wrote. |
sillypoint | 28 Aug 2014 4:46 a.m. PST |
I think, now and then, to be a true TMPer, you have to be DawgHoused ;). Next round of drinks on me, in honour of our Viking friend. |
Cosmic Reset | 28 Aug 2014 4:47 a.m. PST |
Seriously? He's in the clink for that???????? With some of the crap that's been going on here in recent months, he gets nailed for that? Guess he was right. |
Doms Decals | 28 Aug 2014 4:53 a.m. PST |
"Silly" is profanity…? What the actual …? |
sjwalker38 | 28 Aug 2014 4:56 a.m. PST |
I was DH'd once, recently, (for speaking up for Morris Dancers, as far as I can work out) – it's a bad place, don't want to go back there if I can help it. I'm English, from the country that invented the Ministry of Silly Walks, I'm not very silly (OK, maybe a bit, but more usually I'm just dull) but I want to defend the constitutional rights of all free-born Americans to be considered silly. |
Texas Jack | 28 Aug 2014 5:01 a.m. PST |
I think, though I could be wrong, that Gunfreak is in the hoosegow for posting a picture of a book that contained bad language. I took no offence, but apparently someone hit the complaint button. The title of this post was "silly Americans". That said, I think that since Gunfreak´s horrible offence has not been documented properly as a lesson to us all, he should go free. I think there is already a precedence on that, so let the fellow out I say! |
Ambush Alley Games | 28 Aug 2014 5:03 a.m. PST |
Being silly about one thing or the other, even in the most pejorative sense of that astonishingly mild term, is just part of the human condition. Anyone thin-skinned enough to take much offense at being called silly is, well, silly. ;) Doesn't seem like much to get worked up about, especially against the normal background noise of virtually any online community . . . Shawn. |
deephorse | 28 Aug 2014 5:06 a.m. PST |
We'll be stoning people for saying 'Jehovah' next… That's already been done. The victim was Paint Pig I believe. |
Ambush Alley Games | 28 Aug 2014 5:10 a.m. PST |
Just so long as we can continue to say "Mother of Pearl!" Shawn. |
altfritz | 28 Aug 2014 5:41 a.m. PST |
Pig can be used as a profanity as well, especially is "silly" is considered that. How is it members can use profanity in their member names? How is it we are called members? |
altfritz | 28 Aug 2014 5:43 a.m. PST |
What happens if you post a link to a webpage that contains profanity, or similar/worst? |
Tame Thy Swans | 28 Aug 2014 5:50 a.m. PST |
He posted a picture with profanity, i don't know why he got blamed for "silly americans" |
Who asked this joker | 28 Aug 2014 6:11 a.m. PST |
While I agree that it was lame to house him for the offense (that is the offense that Texas Jack stated) it might have been better to block the content, slap him on the wrist and move on. That said, he'll be out soon and there is not much to do about it. You can waist electrons banging on about it or you can go find a more interesting thread to participate in while awaiting his return. |
stenicplus | 28 Aug 2014 6:28 a.m. PST |
An egregious crime clearly. |
Milites | 28 Aug 2014 6:33 a.m. PST |
I was deleted, in one thread, for saying Egyptian recon, in 1973, was abysmal and DH'd for saying the current US Administration was cutting back on military spending. Both neutral, empirical observations, so count me confused about the ROE. |
sjwalker38 | 28 Aug 2014 6:37 a.m. PST |
Despite the title, it's not about Gunfreak personally, gentleman though he may be, and maybe there's more to this story than we know, as Texas Jack states, but it's making sure other 'members' (another dangerously profane word, potentially)don't make the same mistakes. I got turned into a newt once…but I got better |
Cyrus the Great | 28 Aug 2014 6:42 a.m. PST |
Texas Jack has the "offense" right. |
etotheipi | 28 Aug 2014 6:43 a.m. PST |
Gunfreak in the DH? Pity the jailers! |
Steve W | 28 Aug 2014 6:53 a.m. PST |
I hear Kevin Phillips Bong is looking for a running mate in the upcoming elections for "The Slightly silly party". Maybe Gunfreak could help out |
basileus66 | 28 Aug 2014 7:00 a.m. PST |
1 day? Bah! That's nothing… I got 30 days in solitary. Justice is too lenient these days… |
justBill | 28 Aug 2014 7:22 a.m. PST |
I'm an American, and I say most Americans are freaking idiots. Silly is a polite understatement. Bill Troy, NY |
PygmaelionAgain | 28 Aug 2014 7:47 a.m. PST |
Is it time to start popularizing the red eyed wolf badge? We can wear it on our club jackets like those outlaw biker gangs. |
tberry7403 | 28 Aug 2014 8:35 a.m. PST |
Just so long as we can continue to say "Mother of Pearl!" And "Great Caesar's Ghost!" |
Milites | 28 Aug 2014 8:38 a.m. PST |
What about Great Scot, Blue Blistering Barnacles and Gadzooks? |
Fatman | 28 Aug 2014 8:59 a.m. PST |
Discussing this with my youngest daughter she pointed out that silly might not have been the problem perhaps Americans now counts as profanity? Fatman |
sjwalker38 | 28 Aug 2014 9:06 a.m. PST |
Presumably "Silly Scot" might be unacceptable on the profanity and political comment fronts, and potentially the personal insult category as well (apologies to my friend Scott out there) but "Great Scot" should be OK. "Blue" could be considered to infer that said molluscs were involved in films of a pornographic nature, especially if the 'Blistering' implies 'Hot' Gadzooks is even more risky, as it has Christian religious connotations and may offend the Jihadis amongst us. |
HammerHead | 28 Aug 2014 10:22 a.m. PST |
I was DHed once ,not surprise to some I guess,ha ha, I`ll drink to our mate in the DH |
14Bore | 28 Aug 2014 11:34 a.m. PST |
Being silly isn't bothering me, but then a lot worse names wouldn't either. |

15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 28 Aug 2014 1:16 p.m. PST |
Being DH'ed is like being thrown into the penalty box in hockey, just a slap on the wrist. Now what is this 'profanity' on the pic that he posted which earned him a stint in the penalty box? |
Robert Kennedy | 28 Aug 2014 2:10 p.m. PST |
Meh. 17 hours and he is out. |
sjwalker38 | 28 Aug 2014 2:28 p.m. PST |
Robert et al, Ever heard of Martin Niemoller? :-) Or Groucho Marx? :-) |
Editor in Chief Bill | 28 Aug 2014 6:10 p.m. PST |
By the time the Editor(s) even see this and then talk about it… I wasn't going to comment, since Texas Jack already had the right of it – "Silly Americans" was just the title of the topic he was DH'd for, the violation was the profanity in the graphic. |
woundedknee | 29 Aug 2014 2:58 a.m. PST |
I got three days recently after squabbling with an American member of some notoriety (my first time inside). Bill took the trouble to refer me to the relevant rules, which left me none the wiser…something about bleeped text not being an offence, I think. In future, I'll do a Richard Nixon and redact my own text, unless that's an offence, of course. |
Texas Jack | 29 Aug 2014 3:43 a.m. PST |
Editing your posts is not against the rules, think of it as a 60 minute window of opportunity. |
stenicplus | 29 Aug 2014 4:43 a.m. PST |
It occurs to me that there might be a better process than to rely on Texas Jack for an explanation (and conjecture at that) before the bandwagon breaks under the strain of us all climbing on. And that is not meant in any way or shape or form meant to be a dig at TJ. Just sayin' |
Gunfreak | 29 Aug 2014 8:28 a.m. PST |
I was not punished for the picture with the word fugl, i was punished because Bill is bought by the people that hate metric. I said i was willing to be martyred for my belief om the supetiority og metric, and so i was |
John the OFM | 29 Aug 2014 8:48 a.m. PST |
While I admire your willingness to die for the hectogram, I am not going to stand in the path of bullets coming your way. Good Lord, Man! A liter of beer is less than a quart! How can you defend such a system??? |
Inari7 | 29 Aug 2014 10:05 a.m. PST |
I am not sure letting a self proclaimed "Freak" with a "Gun" out of the pokey is such a good idea :) |
War Artisan | 29 Aug 2014 3:03 p.m. PST |
But at the same time, John, a liter is more than a pint! |
Iceblock | 29 Aug 2014 5:23 p.m. PST |
No actually a litre is larger than a quart, look it up… |
Rabelais | 29 Aug 2014 5:41 p.m. PST |
No actually a litre is larger than a quart, look it up… Depends which side of the Atlantic you are. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 29 Aug 2014 5:55 p.m. PST |
Metric is superior for 15mm wargaming, but Imperial is best for 28mm. |
kidbananas | 29 Aug 2014 8:37 p.m. PST |
He was DH'ed for "profanity in a graphic" yet we have a Needs More Boobies board, or whatever it's called now. Somehow I just don't understand… |
Robert Kennedy | 29 Aug 2014 9:01 p.m. PST |
Oh yeah I forgot that subject . And here I thought I would retire them. (sigh)
|
GeoffQRF | 04 Sep 2014 5:54 a.m. PST |
No actually a litre is larger than a quart, look it up… Depends which side of the Atlantic you are. Indeed. 1 imperial quart = 1.13 litres 1 US quart = 0.946 litres But you still can't get a quart into a pint pot. |
