Horrible rendition.

Each to their own, but I think its brilliant. But there again I am rather fond of BH.

Never heard of Bellowhead, quite like the music…I especially like the ending where the ship sinks! They should write a song about a real ship, maybe they could call it "Winner Kearsarge Winner" (so says a true southern scallawag) :)

Ummmm. Not sure I like this version. I sing in a "pirate" band, where we sing shanties and all. I think the interpretation of songs is a good thing, generally, but I'm not really impressed with this one.

My two shillings.

I agree with epturner. The style just doesn't fit the music.

Bellowhead are a top rock folk band in the UK,
I am off to see them in November at the Phil in Liverpool lees than 2 miles from the yards of Jonathan Laird, roll Alabama roll.
I hope they play it.

Like most shantys liricks, lots of the facts are not right,

It's was John Laird of Birkenhead

No guns from Liverpool she sailed unarmed to the Azores under the name Enrica.

How ever let facts get in the way of a good song.

I like the original, this one doesn't cut it for me--too soft and pretty.
