There was another article like this some time ago, abusing statistics in a similar manner to suit a certain agenda. In that article they'd taken the end-of-day serviceability states, which showed 75% unserviceability or somesuch. Peacetime air forces tend to be mainly a 9-5 job unless they're specifically training for night ops. So at the end of the day, when the planes are stuck in the hangar, they'll often have some minor servicing issue to be sorted out by the engineering night shift – many of which will be VERY minor and will take only a few minutes to sort out and sign off. The fact that the fleet was then 25% operational by commencement of flight operations on the following day was curiously omitted from the article… |
