Gentlefolk,

I was going to talk this game up a few months ago, but I realized that it would be lost in the noise of all the gaming conventions that took place this summer; so I waited until this evening to bring this game to your attention.

John Poniske is a brilliant young game designer and writer who already has several games to his credit and is soon to have his latest game "Maori Wars" published by Legion Wargames.

Mike wrote a brilliant article for the upcoming issue of War Diary Magazine (# 3 is the issue slated) which not only covers the history of the wars from a unique angle (I learned something, so that should tell you something right there), but how he worked these human and historic events into the game itself. Since the article is not yet published, I can't go into too much detail here, but I have provided several links below which should give you quite a bit of information about this game and its unique play aspects.

If you like what you see, please pre-order this game, it needs less than 20 pledges to see print and I can assure you it will be worth it, as I am eagerly looking forward to my copy…as soon as TANGA see's print in the near future

(I will post more about that as the time draws near).

Thanks for your time,

Andrew…who will be posting a FINAL Sikh War book update this week too!

The playtest map had a lot of place name errors and as I recall some of the geographical features were not where they should've been so as a Kiwi I was a bit cautious about jumping in and ordering it. Perhaps things have improved, but I haven't seen any new info regarding correction.

Might be a great game but map inaccuracies getting through would really turn me off.

Do you know if those things have been addressed?

Cheers,
Aaron

I read that many errors were being corrected; maybe that includes the place names?

I'm not a historical gamer, but Maori Wars has a beautiful map. I may have a go just for the "pretty" factor.

TLA and evilC…

You can sub for FREE to CSW and the MW folder (above and below) and ask those questions, but to the best of my knowledge your concerns have been addressed or are in the process of being taken care of.

However, John certainly would not turn down the assistance of a person who is willing to help correct any errors in order to ensure everything is as correct as can be.

I will also notify John in regards to your concerns.

The map IS stunning though, isn't it.

In regards to both the beauty of the map and certain spelling errors, etc. John Poniske has asked me to post the following. If anyone wants to help with comments or corrections, you can contact John directly above or via the CSW folder.

Thanks…Andrew

My friends,

I am in frequent contact with our Maori Wars artist, Nils Johansson who is a globetrotting designer in his own right (currently in Macao). He has been collecting all comments and corrections and is incorporating them as they come to light. Please do not assume that we are going to produce such a beautiful product without first vetting and correcting it. Design is an evolutionary process. Mistakes are made and corrected along the way. The artwork posted is a good example rudimentary and professional.

The information included on the map continues to be improved and will be right up to publication. Nils however is unlikely to post a new map with every change, nor would I want him to invest his valuable time doing so until the design is actually on the docket to go into production. The good news is, at the rate preorders are coming in, Maori Wars is very likely to be published in 2015. New Zealand's story is a worthwhile addition to our hobby.Thank you all for your interest and support in this project.

Pax,
John Poniske
