Curious about gaming this period and a few questions, 1690-1720. Land forces in an ambush aka colonial troops, uniform similar to age of Malborough for Nations, would coat colours be: French – white or light grey, marines- blue? Saw something on a french unifrom site. English- red Spanish- yellow Nations navies- sailors a mix like a pirate crew however any marines on board- same colours as above for the three nations? Royal Navy officers- dark blue coats, what about France and Spain? |

I'm also getting these painted right now. I did the British infantry as per Marlborough era. The Brit sailors I'm going to do primarily in white shirts and more neutral colors as opposed to garish colors for pirates. Most pics I've seen represent them this way, but I'm not sure that there is any record to say. You may be surprised to find out the Royal Navy officers have no uniform through this time period so you can do what you want for them. Sorry don't know about other nations. Steve |

Thanks Steve, but from what I have read the Royal Marines on a ship normally did not wear their red outfit and dressed more like a sailor but musket armed. Am I wrong here? BTW based on what I read the Marines in the wierd helmet like the Northstar pirate hunters were in the mid 18th century. Strange, it seems that in the golden age they wore the tricorne. Again no expert but that is what I found out on-line. Expert opinions? |

The North Star figures are wearing a grenadier miter. I don't know if Marines of that era were grenadiers or had grenadier companies at all. |

Hi James from what I have read they apply for Mid 18th century, truly surprised. |

From what I have read, during the pirate era, sailor uniforms varied widely and most units did not have a lot of uniformity in issued ones, at least on the sea. |
