Public Service Broadcasting is a London-based pseudonymous musical duo consisting of J. Willgoose, Esq. on guitar, banjo, other stringed instruments, samplings and electronic instruments; and Wrigglesworth on drums, piano and electronic instruments.

They use old PSB film and audio clips to create something a little different (and IMO, quite marvelous)

I absolutely love PSB – seen them live a couple of times too, and they're great. They have a few other military tracks, eg. London Can Take It, the excellent Lit Up (based on the famous drunk commentary on the Spithead fleet review) and If War Should Come, which is superbly forboding.

That said, I mist admit my favourite track is a "civilian" one – Night Mail, obviously using the eponymous documentary and W H Auden poem – fantastic listening. :-)

"London can Take it" great track heard it a couple of years ago on the radio. Also check out the track they did for the end of last years Formula 1 Season.

I'm also a fan of PSB and must get to see them live some time.

Definitely recommend it – they've played the Leadmill a couple of times and they were great gigs. Live they kind of switch the balance as it were – the films/spoken word become backing for the music rather than the primary element as they are on the recorded stuff – it really works well. They're recording at the moment, but should be touring again early next year.

The most poignant track is Waltz for George. The video doesn't do it justice though.

Thanks – that's reminded me I really need to copy the War Room EP onto my MP3 player….

The backstory of Waltz For George really brings it home – the George in question being Willgoose's great uncle, who died at Dunkirk, and the track being played by Willgoose on a banjolele that belonged to him 75 years ago.

I agree – a great band and Spitfire is a brilliant track. I don't have any of their recordings, but Janice Long plays them quite regularly when I'm on the night shift.

What a great band and thanks for bringing them to my attention.

It seems that there's still something we can agree on…;)
