Comments or corrections?

Can anyone give advice on whether it's possible to use Perry WotR Mounted Men at Arms as Late period Crusades?

I've a couple of discounted boxes on the way and will have a few left over. I thought I may be able to convert the left overs into Crusader Command figures to go with my Fireforge stuff. Hopefully they won't look too historically inaccurate?

Just an idea. Any help would be appreciated.

No, it's not possible, they'd look completely out of place.

Agree, would not work. There is around 200 years of history that seperates Fireforge's stuff (approx 1250-1300) and the Perry stuff (approx 1450-1500).

Damon.

Thought as much. Ok guys, thanks for the comments anyway.

I've still got an unopened box of Fireforge Mounted Sergeants, so I'll probably convert a couple of those instead.

Too late for the fireforge stuff.
But.
Antoine, Bastard of Burgundy led a crusading army in 1464 (? I might need to check the date he was back home in time to fight at Montlehery)He Got involved in Portuguese politics (his mother in sin was Princess of Portugal)and ended up attacking the Muslims at Ceuta. The crusade was cancelled on the death of the Pope.
So you could get away with that sort of adventure.

Maybe they would work for Crusades in the Balkans in the 15th century

Siege of Belgrade 1456 had an army of crusading peasants and the Crusade of Varna happened in 1443-4 both against the Ottomans.

Crusade of Varna? Hmmm…I like the sound of that. May have to investigate.

Perry Furst Crusaders will work with modest work for the mid crusades (3rd, German, and 4th) such as covered by Fireforge's Templars and Sergeants, but as said the WotR range is way off. Moreover, I think they are a slightly different sizes.

Their forthcoming HYW plastics are a different matter of course. As they would be ideal for Nicopolis :-)

Since the Spanish Reconquista goes on until 1492 you could probably do that.

Not sure if I have heard about that, but I think that Philip the Good was involved in some crusading schemes against Ottomans in 1450's, though those did not really take place in the end.

For other what-ifs, don't forget that the French invasion of Italy in 1494 was intended to secure southern Italy as a launching point for a crusade against Ottomans. This was probably a rather optimistic plan.

Put a kite shield on them and call it good. If someone tells you that's not what a crusader looked like, ask for photographic evidence.

"Since the Spanish Reconquista goes on until 1492 you could probably do that."

I once a had a plan to make opposing forces for the fall of Granada using the Perry mercenary box sets for the basis of my conversions.

By that logic, you could probably skip the kite shield – I don't think we have much photographic evidence for those being used during the Crusades.
