What vehicles did the Egyptians use for Recon in the '67 and '73 wars? Thanks for any help in advance. |

1967 PT-76 with BTR 50 in Armored Divisions and BRDM 1, and occasionally BRDM 2, with BTR 40 in Mechanised Divisions. 1973 the same but with the BRDM 2 being more common. Fatman |

Well, that seems a bit harsh. Tarring the innocent as well as the guilty with the same brush. |

What! I said the Egyptian recce capability in the 73 war was abysmal, someone care to correct me! |

Jeeze I spend the day out with my grandaughter and it looks like everybody started poking each other with sticks. Fatman |

Well, I'm thankful for your info. Now I know how to fill them out. Somebody made a joke about camels and goats, then somebody got offended, and it went from there. Milites only said that Egyptian recon was terrible, but that seems to have been enough to get him whack'd also. |

Yeah I saw the camels and mules line and ignored it. Glad I missed the rest, at the risk of being "whack'd" (you have to pay extra for that in some establishments. ;-P) Milites was pretty much right. Like most things in the Egyptian army it pretty much depended on the chain of command. Some units blessed with good officers used the Recce well, others, the majority, squandered them. Fatman |

I also think the Egyptian game plan of bite and hold, precluded the dynamic use of recce units. When they did resume the offensive their forward recce was non-existent, allowing the Israelis to get the drop on them. When again on the defensive, politics determined the deployment of forces, so recon was side-lined. |
