I'm trying to paint some of the above but a little confused about the webbing. Some seem to have the traditional y straps at the back with the two at the front, with the whole lot supporting a wealth of equipment, whilst others seem to have single strap running diagonally form one shoulder but supporting the same equipment. Was this common in the blitzkrieg era? |

Remember, soldiers will customise their equipment to suit their personal preferences as well as looting additional equipment and doubling up in some cases. Or shedding equipment or reconfiguring it to be more comfortable. |

The tunics had an internal harness that supports the belt, with bread bag, water bottle, bayonet and ammo pouches. The assault pack (zeltbahn and mess kit) and/or shovel requires y straps. The diagonal strap holds the gas mask can and blister gas cape in its pouch. The internal harness is dropped with the 1944 pattern tunic. KAM
