I'm really happy with those new Victrix figures :-)
More Romans and some Italian Allies are ordered! Bring on the Carthaginians!! Cheers SP |
RickinWhiteRock | 24 Aug 2014 12:51 p.m. PST |
That is a terrific paint job- they really look like tough Roman veterans! |
Jeff965 | 24 Aug 2014 1:10 p.m. PST |
I don't know if your anything to do with the company, not that that matters. Those two figures are an excellent advert for that product, I'm so tempted well done. |
Zargon | 24 Aug 2014 1:33 p.m. PST |
That pilum is a real pile driver though and the girders binding the shields look massive, is this a response to the spindly muskets in their Napolionic French and British? ( I have those) what other poses are there? These look like wooden mannequins fine for the troops in the back line but not for all. Other than that like them (Vitrex always do the heads beautifully. Nice paint up Cheers and happy gaming. |

Very nice paint job, yes very tempting. Well done. |

Great brush work, show us more! |
Mithridates | 24 Aug 2014 3:55 p.m. PST |
Like the painting very much – looking forward to the Carthaginians. Had not noticed the lack of leather hand grip/binding on the Triarii spear before, strange given the pilum has one. Zargon – check out recent TMP posts and Victrix's web site for various poses, some quite animated for the front rank. Garry |

I think Victrix might have hit the "holy grail" of plastics. I would expect this to be the "go to" period range once it's all out (plastic cavalry, please….) |
Suetonius Paullinus | 25 Aug 2014 2:49 a.m. PST |
Plastic cavalry..and Elephants! Pretty please :-) This promises to be a glorious range of miniatures. Gauls, Spanish and Carthginians are announced, maybe some Macedonians on top, my thirst for ancient plastics is limitless! Thanks for you kind comments so far gentlemen. Cheers SP |

Outstanding work on paint job. How did you do the chain mail? It's especially brilliant. |
colin knight | 25 Aug 2014 8:28 a.m. PST |
I would be very happy with those too. Exellent job. |

Who carries Victrix in the US? Plastics: The Warstore – thewarstore.com Metals: Brigade Games – brigadegames.com Both have excellent reputations and good service… |

Thanks for your comments chaps! Centurion:

@optional field Nothing special, just GW 'Chainmail' and a heavy wash with Nuln Oil. The officer guy is a simple conversion, legionary helmet with Greek crest and a GB plastic Saxon cape. Standard bearer and more legionaries next :-) Cheers SP |

Very nice figures, unfortunately none of them is a Stuka or a Typhoon |
STEVE LBMS | 26 Aug 2014 2:44 a.m. PST |
Stuka and Typhoon are not far off. There was an issue with the flight-stand that needed sorting in the tool room. Sometime in September is the best I can say. I can't commit to a definite date as I keep getting told nearly there and then get egg on my face! Lovely painting by the way SP. The conversions are good on the officer. Steve. |

Any chance of getting your secret formula for the red tunics? |
Suetonius Paullinus | 28 Aug 2014 9:47 a.m. PST |
@Hans No secret at all there: GWs Mephiston Red, good wash with Agrax Earthshade, re-highlited and matt varnish. I use Winsor&Newton Professional Matt Varnish, best stuff ever or like Herr Gruber would say, simply wunderbar! Cheers SP |
HANS GRUBER | 28 Aug 2014 10:24 a.m. PST |
Thank you SP. Despite your photos appearing dark, I assume you use a light color primer (grey)? |
bracken | 28 Aug 2014 10:24 a.m. PST |
Top notch work, you've sold me on them! So more plastics to put on the must buy list. |
Suetonius Paullinus | 28 Aug 2014 11:13 a.m. PST |
@Hans To be honest most of the time I don't use any primer at all. Most plastics take paint just fine. I know that's heresy but it works fine and my figures are all being varnished afterwards so there is no paint flaking or rubbing off at all. Plus GW asks now for a tenner per can- outrageous!! For the money I've saved I rather buy more figures.. ;-) Othetwise I use Chaos Black. Never tried grey but that sound good as well. Never gotten on with White. @bracken Attaboy! I dare say you won't regret it. Thanks for your comments gentlemen. More pictures follow soon, no doubt :-) Cheers SP |

Suetonius Paullinus | 30 Aug 2014 12:12 p.m. PST |
I use cheapo Not GW slotta bases from eBay and LotR movement trays. Now with lovely LBMS transfers:

More photos to make me drool over! I'm itching to get my hands in a box, just one question with the shield transfers do you paint the shield first or do you undercoat it white and the transfer gives you the base colour. I would normally have a crack at painting the shield designs but I'm not that good at that much detail. |
Suetonius Paullinus | 04 Sep 2014 1:40 p.m. PST |
For LBMS transfers I always use a white background, brings out the details – and by Jove there are details! – and colours best. Even a bone coloured or off white can change the look..So white it is for me. This might be a little more effort but in the end it's really paying off I think. Steve's designs are little works of art and worth every penny imho. Cheers SP |
bracken | 04 Sep 2014 1:51 p.m. PST |
Thanks SP, I really don't think I could cope with all that detail over and over again! So transfers are the way to go Thanks again SP your a gent |
mysteron | 09 Sep 2014 3:05 a.m. PST |
Very nicely done SP. I am also a fan of LBMS transfers. They are a little more trickier to apply but well worth the effort. They can transform an average figure into a very good figure and like wise like yours into excellent figures. Not the cheapest of transfers but they are value for money when you consider the artwork that goes into them. |
