Time for something a bit silly:

There's a long standing tradition of slightly stereotypical names for games, usually involving Panzer something or other.

So have a crack at making up the most over the top Panzer-porn name you can think of.

My submission: "Valiant Storm of Panzer Eagles"

Tankrider24 Aug 2014 10:54 a.m. PST

"Ze Mighty Panzer Fan Boyz zat Whinez Whenz Zey Don't Vin!"

Any scale.. no rebasing required. :)

Griefbringer24 Aug 2014 10:58 a.m. PST

For the most over-the-top effect, the name should preferably be in bad German, something like:

"Übergrosskampfgruppe Wundersturmpanzergrenadier"

For sheer bad taste--but the secret thrill of Goose-Stepping-Tread-Kissers everywhere--why not just "SS?"

Or the equally slobber inducing "Totenkopf?"

Or go for the alliterative--"Himmler Himmel."

With so many choices for all theaters and subjects of WW II, it seems the richest vein of kitsch and hints of racist/super-trooper man/tank love, you gotta go German, and preferably Schutz Staffel.

Kaos Kampfgruppe.

The most accurate way to answer the question is find someone who always insists on using SS Panzer Units, insists they shouldn't be confused with non combat SS, and ask him his favourite set of rules.

On a semi-related note, I was at the German military cemetery at La Cambes last Monday and was depressingly unsurprised to see a pile of wreaths in one corner… I just KNEW that it had to be Wittmann… The wreaths were all from such worthy veterans' associations such as 'Panzercommanders.com' and Nazikuntzarekewl.org'.

Every other wreath in the cemetery was for a Bavarian SS member. My Bavarian friend tells me that the local 'National Republican Party' branch, or whatever they call the Neo-Nazis these days, sends them.

Thankfully the German government kindly provides toilets close at hand for those of us who suddenly feel the urge to vomit.

For WWI, my vote would be…

Some silly suggestions from a silly man:
"Burning Steel; Boiling Blood – Tank Warfare Rules for WWII"

"Tracks of the Tiger"
"Iron Coffins"
"Ronsons vs. the Reich – Tank Warfare in Western Europe 1943 – 1945'.

"Panzer Himmel, Tank Hell"
Cheers

For an all encompassing strategic game of the European war you could just go with "GROFAZ!", or if you prefer it spelled out, "Der Grosser Feldherr der alte Zeit!" (This was a nickname some of the generals had for Hitler.)

All of this does remind me of one of my earliest wargaming rules I always tried to follow…

If the rules I'm playing has the name of one of the opponents in the rules set name, don't play the other side. :)

The way to do this is to take the titles of every Sven Hassel and/or Leo Kessler book…

Write the key words down on bits of paper, raffle-ticket style…

And draw words out of the hat until you can string them into a workable title.

That's how I got: "Werewolf Headhunters of the Gestapo". (keep an eye out for the kickstarter!)

One name that fits all WW II rules:

The Tide of Burning Iron Storm of Fire and Steel Flames with a Band of Company of Heroes of War

Tekawiz for the win!!!

To totally fkkkk up a title just use the word Liebstandarte.

German speakers will recognise this as Hitlers secret peace and love battalion…….

English rule writers consistently get it all wrong…..
