Hi, "The Guns of Navarone": what ruleset would you use to play it? Thanks Roby |

I would think it would be very difficult. How do you set up a defense that does not disrupt the routine of a garrison's life? You cannot have them on alert 24/7. You simply do not have the manpower for it. You will not get more men, either, since the cream of the army is getting slaughtered in Russia. In fact, you have just had to send 10% of "your best men" taken away. If you know that the Heroes are on the way, then they cannot succeed. But you do not. |

You would have to role play it (bags be david niven). CoC would work nicely – taking out the esoteric elements. You'd have to disguise the scenario though, unless your players were Amish. |

How about a variation on Warm Acre's "Hour of Glory"? |

I'd probably use some RPG rules or pulp like .45 adventure. If you can find the old "Behind Enemy Lines" game that would work. I remember playing in commando games and it's set in WWII. |

Dammit! I reached the ammo elevator, only to find JSchutt's explosives already in place… |

Gearkrieg RPG. Savage Worlds Weird War II |

I second 'Hour of Glory'. |

I would also suggest "Battleground WWII" or possibly "Nuts!". Both work well at a small scale, and have some good role-playing possibilities. |
HardRock | 24 Aug 2014 3:10 p.m. PST |
"Behind Enemy Lines" had a "Guns of Navarone" adventure. |

Oh such mirth, 'Amish war gamers' I have to see that one. "Now brother Azikiel, throwith thy sixes so that thy truppen mayest advance and annihilate the heathen Englishmen" |

Like HardRock said, "Behind Enemy Lines" had a "Guns of Navarone" adventure. Though I might try NUTS using the Behind Enemy Lines setup. |

Nuts would work since there are some RPG elements like questioning NPCs, and other opposed and unopposed challenges that would be needed. |

If you can get hold of the FASA book it was a good one. I played it right through thirty years ago and it provided several good gaming sessions and deals with all the main set pieces in the film. It provided some great gaming moments that still get talked about in our group today. It is a role playing module but I'm sure you could make it work. |
