It was time to add some punch to my 1812 collection. This first unit of French Cuirassiers is made from the excellent Perry plastic box. The flag is GMB. En Avant! Forward to the Great Redoubt! More pictures and a movie clip showing a cuirassiers charge at Eylau on the blog: blackpowdergames.blogspot.se |

I simply love the way you shaded the overalls and the dark blue you used for the coat and shabraque (usually shown far too bright a blue). Then the metal work on the helmet….. Just realised. You also did those dragoons that I saved for my education. Gifted……….(I can only find two pics of these cuirassiers……..surely we could have one or two more…..?) |

If I was holding up score cards mine would read 9.5 (after all no-one is perfect :) ) Incredible work. |

Well done, figures, horses, flag, and bases, all look great. |

Thank guys, I'm humbled by your kind words! The dark blue is actually Foundry French blue A – washed with GW "nuln oil", and then highlighted with Foundry French blue C. I'm planning to do a second row of 6 riders, some of which will be the perry metals taking a canister hit, so more pics asap. Thanks again for taking a peak and dropping a comment. Cheers! |

"I'm planning to do a second row of 6 riders, some of which will be the perry metals taking a canister hit, so more pics asap." You will have problems to mix. The metal horses of the Perrys are much thinner than their plastic horses. |

That certainly can be the case, but not for the cuirassiers hit by canister. These are BIG horses (and great castings) |

@Decebalus: Thanks for the Heads-Up! I've already got the FN60, and you're right, they seem thinner, especially on the lower legs. But judging from the picture on the Perry website, I'd go along with Deadhead's optimism. We'll see soon anyways, as they should be on their way in the mail! |

Don't forget the Perry cuirassiers hit by canister (or is it case shot, I can never remember?) are one piece castings (other than the chap actually already off his horse). Might just help if from a different mould, but certainly not the spindly legs you can see, in some other figures. Generally, they are all the same half dozen horses with different saddles and harness styles, so errors can be repeated. The "flash" of metal between front and, especially, rear legs is universal but easily corrected, if spotted in time! I often wonder how well wounded, falling, dead figures do sell, esp as wargamers must make up the bulk of purchasers. For dioramas they are invaluable. These three are brilliant. The animation of the chap struck in the face is superb. The falling guy is straight out of the Ney charge Waterloo diorama. Even the falling forward horse and rider, a little bit rigid perhaps, is better than any of the lancers' wounded range. |
