Ok, ECW know-wots -- any indication that Grenville's Cornish pikemen wore uniform colours at Lansdowne? If so what was it?

Hi khurasan, sadly it's just unknown really. Various people have proposed taunton blue, as an easily available west country cloth. in one of Stuart Reids books grenvilles coat colour is given as blue but no indication of source for this. Mary Coates had grenvilles with blue and white striped pikes but apparently this was based on a misreading of a contemporary document. Clarification welcome!

Others have proposed that the Cornish foot were ununiformed, it's rather difficult to prove a negative though. At some stage they wore ribbons to show their allegiance to th king. I don't see that this has much bearing on whether they were uniformed or not though.

Certainly later in the war some Cornish foot had red coats.

Happy to learn more on this of course
