Received an email from GW regarding a Nagash scenario book that says "the end times are upon us and warhammer will never be the same again"… Must say I stopped following Warhammer, not because of the prices or new rule editions. I stopped because they kept altering the "history" of the Warhammer World. That and the rise of grim dark, although that may be one and the same. This time they seem to be writing a new chapter in the history of the world. If so kudos if not. then kudus. Anyone got the skinny? |

I thought this guy was The Lord of the End Times
How many end of times can one world have? |

As many as it takes if it makes $$…. |

"How many end of times can one world have?" Quite a few if you listen to people in the real world. How many times have you been told that this or that represents this or that in Revelations or whatever. Or that the sky is falling yet again. I'd imagine people are pretty much the same in the Warhammer World. Asteropithicon* comes from the North and kicks the out of everyone for a while and its the end times. The Orcs come out of the woods led by Bangalottabrinkley and its the end times. Now Nagash rises out of the desert and its the end times. They were doing it all the time in the medieval world here as well. The pope was the antichrist to some. There were anti-popes and witch trials and on and on. Probably just a part of the human condition. Can you blame GW for announcing what everyone is screaming about in their fantasy world anyway? They are just reporting the news down there. *or whatever his name was

This one is about the return of Nagash, who will unite all the undead against Chaos. Supposedly there will be a second End Times book about demons in a few months (greater Demons?), then maybe more in a similar vein. This is also supposed to somehow connect into a new edition of warhammer next year, an edition possibly more skewed to either smaller scale actions or fewer rank-and-file with more expensive monsters--rumor mongers are divided on this; reportedly the 8th edition hardback codexes will not be superseded as quickly and will remain current even into the next edition. |

well I'm glad they are bringing back Nagash, not that I will buy it. |

He's a nice model, that Nagash. It's just a new way of playing, with some modifications to army structure. There's no way that GW will release a set of rules that encourages people to buy less models, so I can't see the coming 9th ed focusing on big creatures over large regiments. The last few army books have been edging the plotline along from what was in the 8th Edition rulebook, which was far from grimdark. As far as I know the only major retcon that Warhammer has had in recent times was the Storm of Chaos being written out, probably because it was a bit of a damp squib. As it is at the moment, it looks like Archaon's major invasion is going to happen at the same time as Nagash returns. It's all just one big end times now. As far as where this is all going, it appears that there will be a series of these 'End Times' books (hooray…), this 1st one about Nagash and the 2nd one will be End Times: Archaon. There's rumours about End Times: Malekith but these are probably wishful thinking. Anyway, if you like it then it will be fun. If you don't, then all the army books and rules won't change and you can carry on without these supplements. As and when 9th edition comes out, the army books will still be current until superceded in the normal fashion. Leigh |

Thanks folks. Might be fun. Will wait and see. Bob |

It's nice to see Fantasy getting some attention, and especially to know they have what appears to be a multi-month timeline planned for the game; next up after Nagash is a book covering the massive Chaos hordes gathering at Archaon's call in the North (Nagash being resurrected was apparently in response to this growing Chaos presence). |

It would be even nicer if they hurry up and get 9th Edition out. Its bound be be an improvement over 8th. TomT |

So will there be another Sigmar "reborn" model. Last time there were three. One young kid, one older on foot and the same mounted. I admit the fluff is fun; but not enough to learn the new .new version of the rules. |
Bob Runnicles | 27 Aug 2014 7:15 a.m. PST |
New version of the rules? The current edition is now over four years old although if you haven't played 8th Ed up until now it would probably be worth waiting at this point as the next edition is rumored to be coming out next year. |

So GW has really jumped the shark with this. Overprice books and even more overprice models to include all of those really overprice large models. Warhammer Fantasy Battles is dead or soon will be after this. Dwarves being able to ally with Orcs & Goblins High Elves and Dark Elves combining into one force Everyone being able to summon Demons and Undead. Yup, GW has destroyed the game finally. |

Silly book was sold out before I ever heard about it. Nagash costs over $100 USD for the kit. Stuff it, GW. |
Mithmee | 04 Dec 2014 3:09 p.m. PST |
Be glad that you missed it. Because Elf book sold out as well. Either of them are worth the money. GW just wants everyone playing Chaos so that is what they are changing the game into. |

Perhaps it's a fitting end as the once whimsical Warhammer World succumbs to the forces of Grim Dark. It's a parody of a sham of a mockery…or something like that Woody Allen once said :) |

I stopped playing WHFB back in 99, but have nothing but fond memories. Is what I've been reading true, that they're attempting major fluff changes like all in one elf armies and no more Bretts? |
Bob Runnicles | 12 Mar 2015 8:49 a.m. PST |
Which could happen if 9th Ed bombs as badly as Epic 40K did. Still, I guess there is always ebay, right? |

It just cracks me up, it really does. GW pitches their fantasy products more like a car dealership than a gaming company. They expect gamers to shovel their entire previous edition rule books and armies into the trash bin because the "next big thing" is on the horizon. They have perfected the "cash grab" to a tee. What also makes me laugh is they act like The End Times is some brand new idea. I remember back in White Dwarf magazine in 2002, nearly 13 years ago, they had an article and a big mini spread about The Lord of The End Times. I say "official lore" be damned. They should have left The Old World alone. It has plenty of chaos, evil and conflict in it as it is. Rich in depth and lore, the only reason to fix something that's not broken is so you can sell yet ANOTHER round of $70 USD supplement book and $50 USD individual mini models. I remember the good old days when GW sold army books for a mere $29.95 USD 8th Edition army books are going for $44.95 USD?!?!?! For a supplement? I mean c'mon. $80 USD for a hardcover rulebook? I mean these guys's head have gotten big indeed, despite the fact they write really good lore and do make really good minis. The ironic thing is that next to Tolkien's Middle Earth, GW's Old World is my second favorite fantasy world of all time. I fell in love with it during WHFB Third Edition back in the late 80's. They had SIEGE rules back then, and the RAVENING HORDES, as well as DOGS OF WAR mercenaries. I mean it was just brilliant stuff. Rich and varied armies and spectacular mini ranges. Watching GW slowly turn their world into a pseudo-skirmish hero game with ever-increasing model, paint, and book pricing based on a CFO's lack of understanding of the game and purely modelling their company on max profits while saying w you to their gamers, it's just been really sad. |

Yes, but increasing the pricing is the only way that they can even attempt to make money. Which is why I have gone over to Mantic Games. With two of their recent Kickstarters I will spend around $550 USD and get a ton of stuff. Today with GW that can of money would barely get you anything. Since nearly half would have gone to their overprice books. |
