"It's that time again. Tomorrow doesn't just mark the arrival of a new season of Doctor Who, it also sees the arrival of a whole new Doctor as well. With each new regeneration comes that feeling of anxiety that's all too familiar to longtime fans: What will this Doctor be like? Will I miss [Insert Previous Doctor of Choice] too much to be able to enjoy the show now? Is this when everything falls apart?!

Ahead of the first episode of Peter Capaldi's reign as everyone's favorite Time Lord, we'd like to remind you: It'll all be OK—and maybe even better than OK, depending on your tastes. After all, you already went through this when Christopher Eccleston was replaced by David Tennant, and then again when Tennant was replaced by Matt Smith, and all of those changes worked out just fine. Still, if that isn't comfort enough for you, let us assist. Here are six things you should know to prepare you for Doctor Who Season 8…"

Not big on articles that pretend Dr Who began with Eccleston!

"Doctor Who is to science fiction what Pizza Hut is to Italian cuisine". I've just never seen what Doctor Who does for sci-fi.

Thank you for the link! Informative and fun!

Dr who is panto dressed in a SF nightie.

It is exactly as littlearmies said.

Wobbly sets, silly monsters and lots of panto running around not accomplishing much of anything and a final deus ex machina resolution – just because.

Historically, the show has been head and shoulders above American TV scifi (I admit the new show is often style over substance).

Wow, Tango's linked article recommends the season 3 finale? After Love and Monsters that trio of episodes is right there for "Worst of New Who" in my opinion. Certainly not "necessary" to establish he's the last Time Lord, at least until Gallifrey is brought back (possibly this season?).

Tom Baker is THE Doctor !

I'm one of the weirdoes who like both old and new Who. Big soft spots for the first and second doctors.

You're not that weird Weasel. I'm the same boat. I've enjoyed each of the new Doctors. Of course given my age, Tom Baker was the first and best Doctor to me, but I suspect people who watched the show before he showed up might disagree.

Genesis of the Daleks was my first Doctor Who episode, and it still holds a special place in my heart.

I suspect as you claim, lugal, it depends on who (Who?) you saw first in the role; personally I'm a Pertwee fan but I do also like Tom Baker a lot. I'm just loving the fact that the show has gone from the red-headed stepchild of the BBC to their flagship world-wide program :)

Btw, I thought Capaldi was great. Not that enamored of the episode itself though, but I guess it was okay.
