The other day I noticed 2 Blue Jays attacking something on the ground. We chased off the Jays and found this:

From Wikipedia:
The Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia) is North America's largest native moth. It is a member of the Saturniidae family, or giant silk moths. Females with a wingspan of six inches (160 mm) or more have been documented. We released it back into the wild. Hopefully it won't crush the house when it gets bigger. Xin |

Nice find! Hope it makes it to adult moth-hood. I see one or two of those in my yard every two or three years. They look like green unopened pinecones, until they move. Luna Moth caterpillars have a similar appearance, but not as Mothra-like. As an aside, I had a crush on Mothra's princesses way back when. Hah! |

"Mosura-ya! Mosura!" Who doesn't love the Peanuts and their Ode to Mothra? That is one big and alien looking dude. In my youth, I had a (small but hairy) pet caterpillar named Fuzzy and actually watched him spin his cocoon! |

Nice! Birds have a right to eat and all but saving insects from becoming a meal or being stomped on is a sign of impending sainthood. |

That has to be the biggest moth caterpillar I think I have ever seen. Neat! |

You have forgotten "The Prime Directive"! God only knows what terrible fate you have unleashed upon the world by interfering with Nature. |
