I have them but haven't played them (that's a project a few years/decades off). I picked them up after some buzz over the Miniatures Wargames review (quoted on their site). From my quick read-through they seemed interesting. |

What about them appealed to you, boy wundyr x? And was there anything that you didn't like? -- Jeff

I haven't played them but I think they have a very interesting and novel way of representing combat between mixed (shot & pike) units. Units are rated on a sliding scale of 1 to 7 based on their shot to pike ratio. As I recall you have to roll higher on a D6 than your rating for a hit from shooting and an all pike would have a 7 rating so therefor would be unable to score any shooting hits. But you score melee hits by rolling your score or lower so they are almost, there are some modifiers, guarantied at least one hit. I think the emphasis is currently on ECW but they are working on a format that will work better with the entire TYW era. Definitely worth checking out their site. |

I joined the yahoo group that was developing these rules, and played about a dozen games. The rules at that stage were a sort of amalgam of `Forlorn Hope' and `Loose Files and American Scramble'. Of course, I have no idea how the final published set turned out. My feelings while I was trying the game were that the addition of the LFAS bits did not add much to the experience, but that the changes to the FH parts were an improvement. |

I was involved in some of the earlier play testing. Our group enjoyed the games. I know there were changes that led to the final product and I am not fully aware of them. We did like the command and control system. Generals have a varying number of points to spend each turn to have units take actions. As the battle evolves you often do not have enough points to do everything you want. So, you have to start making choices and victory usually goes to the side that gets the other guy behind the command points power curve. Overall we enjoyed the games and I was happy to provide some feedback. |
