Does anyone know how many tabletop miniatures and gaming related kick starters have launched to date? At one point someone estimated there were about 5 new companies being created per week, but I think that was a non-scientific guess.

I was just wondering if there is a web site or blog that carries a database or covers this topic. Following this new way of funding fascinates me.

Thanks in advance.

Ken, can you contact me please? I have a question and don't know how to get ahold of you. Thanks!

All I know (or believe I suppose) is that things have really slowed down. I haven't backed a project in over four months.

Either that or I've finally developed some self-discipline ! (hah ! as if…)

It does seem, at least based on ads on BGG that card games are the new get-rich-quick scheme. I can kind of see how it happens. Someone has an idea, draws up some cards, playtests it with his friends who tell him, "it's great, you should totally kickstart this". Up goes the ad and he starts dreaming of what colour his exotic sports car will be…

I have seen a few very well done campaigns fail to fund, so I guess it might be slowing down. It also seems to have evolved in to a method for larger companies to leverage their size and power in to even greater size and power…

I am still trying to form an opinion if this will be good or bad in the long term. It sometimes takes a while to figure out a complex issue for me.

I have seen some high profiled, fairly slick stuff fail, but at the same time I've seen some really amateur stuff get funded. I've also seen the prices really climbing. When did $100 USD become the price of entry? A lot of companies seem to be pushing $99 USD or $100 USD as the primary price point of their games.

From my perspective, having been burned for about 50% of the stuff I've backed, I'm much more selective.

my biggest burn is when you can buy a crowd funded game cheaper at retail than the campaign. Ogre for example.
