Talking to my son about what propulsion system to put on a vehicle we are building, and he said "drills, dad, put on drills". …"Drills? You mean tracks??" "No, dad, DRILLS, like the all terrain driving vehicle…" I was puzzled, thinking he meant some sort of track system and was calling it differently, until he showed me this on Youtube?! YouTube link Drills…! Now how am I going to model that?? |

<showing age here> Looks like a working model of a mid-1960's concept vehicle for travelling on the Moon's surface |

Now how am I going to model that?? Wood Screws. Easy enough for 6mm and 10mm, a bit more challenging to find for 15mm. Anything larger might reqire inquiries to industrial suppliers rather than a local builders supply store. Pick some with the right diameter and cut off the excess material. Simples. cheers |

Ahh, a prime example of an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis. |

Not exactly a new idea though link There are lots of nylon screws etc that could be kitbashed to make a 'screwdrive' |
