I stumbled upon this just yesterday.

startrekaxanar.com

Good fun! It's got Apollo playing a Klingon! :D

Those of you who played the FASA Trek RPG, or Starship Combat Simulator, might remember the 4 Years War as a part of the 'prehistory' of the original series that FASA invented to patch the holes in old Trek continuity.

This is a little 'documentary' of the opening stages of the war – I'm surprised how closely they follow the FASA timeline, with the Klingons not getting D7's, nor the UFP Constitutions, until right at the end.

I feel a campaign coming on…

They are currently funding the Axanar feature. So far, they are exceeding their initial goals. I am definitely looking forward to this when it comes out. Right now, the documentary style prelude is out. Definitely some campaign and gaming ideas that this project could generate.

It's one of many fan-led projects that garner support for the "official" community which has a much more liberal attitude these days.

Has more 'names' than most I've seen.

And, I think it's quite good so far.

No, I refuse to get my hopes up again…

*oh, please* *oh, please* *oh, please*

Edit: In case someone hasn't looked up the FASA Star Trek list, there was a two book module Return to Axanar/The Four Years War. Fitting an expedition into darkest back storeroom to see if I can find my copy.

Man, that was REALLY well done. Gets me fired up for Star Trek gaming again!

I still have my two-book Axanar set, and I loved the hell out of the prelude :)

Funny you should mention the old FASA book. Alec Peters, producer of Star Trek: Axanar, used the book as inspiration for the film.

Axanar? Four Years War? Did ANYONE think this was a coincidence? ;->=

Thanks for the pointer, Garth.

This is a well done production and displays much better space battles. Richard Hatch as a Klingon Commander is a little weird as he is pretty laid back for a Klingon, but maybe he was playing it that way to be different than the norm. I also like the documentary style of the production. It's exciting to see that the best Star Trek stuff is being done by fans (Phase II, ST:Continues, Renegades, and now Axanar).

This is the first Star Trek thing I've been excited about in YEARS…

Ditto, IronMike.

I was wrong about the Connies and D7's not appearing until the end of the war – at least, wrong in the sense that both classes are present at the start in the FASA book.

Regardless, I've already started modding ACTA to reflect the period, and I've already got four players putting up hands for a campaign.

I'll post my mods on my blog when they're done, I'd welcome feedback.
