It is unclear if the report is true, since it comes from a single source, but should make for very interesting, "what-if" gaming, nonetheless: link |

They should invade China. I wonder if Kim has seen The Mouse that Roared? |

China NK relations have been souring for quite some time. Nikkei Asia Review reports that China 'may' have cut off oil shipments to NK six months ago, and that Russia has stepped into the breach. link But as usual with news about NK, there is no attribution or confirmation, so who knows? I do know NK has been getting almost as bad a press coverage in China (at least in Shanghai and Beijing) as it gets in the West. They are object of ridicule in China and the Chinese govt seems to have no interest in curbing that. And that makes NK sad. The new leader's Uncle by marriage – the one he executed shortly after taking over – was reportedly China's guy in NK, so not a lot of love there at the moment. I cannot imagine China is happy about these guys having nukes either for that matter. |

"They moved tanks to the border" Are these vehicles operational or are they on flatbeds waiting for parts? |

The mag "Modern War" had a Russia vs. China board game in their last issue (or next-to-last by now), and NK could enter on either side on certain pre-game rolls. I'm playing it now, but NK isn't involved (but the West came in on China's side after Russia tried to pull a Crimea on them). |

Yes, those crazy Norks ! What a hoot !!! P/Off one other few "quasi-allies" they have in the region, let alone the world. As noted, the NKs and China have not been all "hearts & flowers" for sometime … But do the math … the PRC combat forces out number the Norks many times over … even when it comes to nucs, if Un even has any ? Yet … Of course the tactical gaming options are numerous, if you need a fig leaf … And a long, long time ago, before many of you even born … Strategy & Tactics mag did a pretty good wargame, "The East Is Red ". About a Sino-Russkie war. One of the few games that had Nuc counters with different KT yields … |

Dragon vs. Bear (the Modern War mag game) is an update of The East is Red, with 5th gen. fighters, hyperwar, assorted interventions, and lower force numbers than the cold war. I'm using my plays of D vs. B to generate some 6mm (and 3mm now that O8 just released Chinese vehicles) tactical battle ideas. |

Tom Clancy's "The Bear & the Dragon" has a Russia China dust up caused by…. I forget what but Russia joins NATO and all of our stuff works. Typical Clancy. |

I read Clancy's Bear & Dragon in the last year as part of my research/enthusiasm building, but I found it to be pretty poor, both as a novel (one whole chapter was dedicated to lingerie shopping) and for wargaming potential – there are only three battles in it, all one-sided. It was a 200 page story disguised as an 800 page one, about halfway through I started skipping entire chapters depending on who was in them. The dust-up was over Russian resources, both oil and gold. |
