I am planning on trying these rules out. My units are based for Warlord Pike & Shotte. They are double the size that is recommended for Victory Without Quarter. My question is should I be increasing the movement and firing ranges to reflect the greater frontage of my units in relation to what is suggested in the rules? If so would you recommend doubling it or some lesser amount of increase?

Thanks

I would say that in depends in part about the size of your gaming table.

Unless you have a fairly wide table (i.e., 6' or more), I would be tempted to be a bit wary of increasing movement and firing distances.

But if I recall (I don't have the rules at hand), unit size, foot movement and shooting range are all pretty much the same . . . so if your units are structured so that you cannot reduce their size, I would look at that for your guidance (again presuming that you are not on too short a table).

Thanks Jeff

I can go 9x6 so table space should not be an issue.

It doesn't really matter.
Movement rates & firing distances and the frontages of units tend to be mutually exclusive. So long as your using the same base sizes and figure ratios (if you're into that) for both sides then it doesn't matter how big your units are.
Personally I like the look of bigger units. But for many people it's simply down to budget and/or table size.

Some folks like to fit Marston Moor in 28mm on a 6x4 using small units others are happy playing with one or two brigades.
Either way I think you'll have fun with VWQ.

I'd recommend a peep at David Imrie's website saxondog.blogspot.co.uk
and check out his older posts with ECW/TYW stuff they are superb. However I should warn you that viewing Mr. Imrie's site may seriously affect your finances as you'll see all the other eye candy and be very (very, very) tempted.

I will note that, while not written as such, VWQ works quite well as a set of "solo" ECW rules.

I used them as such for a late 16th century "imagi-nation" conflict during a serious illness. I had a couple of "internet generals" who gave their orders for each side and then I would solo game things out. Here is the blog of those battles:

As with all blogs, they should be read forward to make much sense.

I notice in VWQ the horse stands are bigger than the foot stands. If you increase the size of the foot units I imagine you'd have to do the same to the horse.
