"Frank Miller didn't want to go back to Hollywood. To hear Miller tell it (he and his Sin City codirector Robert Rodriguez have different versions of the story) after having a rough time as a screenwriter he had pretty much lost all interest in working in films ever again. Luckily for Sin fans, he caved.

"I had to be dragged kicking and screaming back into movies," says Miller, who began the comics series the Sin City flicks are based on back in 1991. "I had no idea what it was like to actually be a director and make those decisions on the set. But [on] the first day I decided I was in for the whole ride."…"

The only thing I know about Sin City is that I have absolutely no interest on seeing it.

To hear Miller tell it […] after having a rough time as a screenwriter

That's because he's a terrible writer. I've seen "300", "Sin City" and "The Spirit", and these godawful hammy voiceover narrations very nearly killed me. A good film tells its story through dialogue and visuals, not a bleedin' narrator.

He should have resisted harder.

He's not a screen writer, he is a comic book writer. Comics come with narration.

That's what I was saying, wasn't I? His screenplays are terrible.

And don't get me started on the fact that all women in "300" and "Sin City" are either prostitutes or rape victims. It seems that in Frank Miller's mind, the primary function of female characters is to be sexually "used" by men at some point. This guy has some serious psychological issues.

Whew! I thought he was going to say it was autobiographical. I would have had nightmares for months.

Kubrick frequently uses voice-over narration. I can see I shall have to downgrade him as a director.
You'd better tell us what's wrong with Bach and Shakespeare and Titian while we're listening.

You are right, my ill-thought-out blanket statement about voiceover narration doesn't hold up. Of course, a comparison with Kubrick further highlights how ham-fisted the writing of Miller's movies is.

I dunno, Watching Sin City stirred something in me--i really felt like I needed to take a bath afterwards.

Watch the second one and the first one story flowed better.

The second one jump all over the place.

Though Eva Green looked really, really good in it.
